The studio verison of "Travelin' Thru" is by far and away my favorite thing to come out of American Idol.

Ever.

Hyperbole? No.

Absolutely agreed. I think I stated that before even.... The lyrics are pretty amazing (thanks Dolly!), but Jason takes it to a whole new level. I have it on my iTunes (together with 3 Jack Johnson albums, John Mayer, Keb' Mo', etc..)

I dare to say that "studio" Travellin' Thru is already one of my favorite songs ever. The marriage of the lyrics + music + voice is pretty incredible.

I think the difference between Hallelujah and SOTR X Travellin' Thru and Memory, is that the with the first 2, while pretty awsome, are similar to the version he chose and gives you the option of going to the 1st recorded. With TT and Memory, is like he made a whole new song with it. Maybe because both were sang by women before... I dunno, but I much rather hear his version of them.

Did that make any sense at all? I swear it did, in my head. LOL

I can see what your saying,Totalele. I've downloaded all of his songs from I Tunes. Jason does put a troubadour/folksy spin on TT and Memory.

Simon tries to say he's singing on a dorm bed at midnight and Randy says he's at a luau. But who doesn't like a midnight jam on Friday night or a luau?

You know, I think I agree. I am a Cooktard through and through (Jason is my super close 2nd choice though!) and love each and every one of his [Cook's] recordings, but Jason's TT is absolutely amazing.

These full versions are stunning. Check it out. No "train wreck" here.

I think this is what I find so heartbreaking. He's getting so much backlash from the live performance, and that is what the majority of the people will see/hear and believe him only capable of. They will never download the studio version to see how good he actually could have made it on the stage. I think if his live performance would have been the same as the studio version (and yes, I know that would have been impossible), he would have blown everyone away as he'd hoped to do.

Praise For Jason

I'm not sure if this article has been linked, if it has I apologize. But I found it when surfing, and thought it was a very nice article that praises Jason, considering the backlash he's been getting.

One of my favorite parts?

"Everybody gets on their phones like crazy at the end of the show," says Jennifer Wasserman, the hotel's sales and marketing director. "There are people who have two phones going at once."

I suppose having two phones to call in votes helps? *grins*

The article goes on to mention how he seemed to come out of nowhere, what degree he's getting, (What exactly is construction science? Can someone explain that to me, in layman's terms please if you can.) and also delves a little bit into his religion/religious views.

But it's this part here, explaining a little bit of his fan-mail near the end of the article, in the religion part, that gets to me.

"Sometimes, I don't feel worthy to read them, because they're so raw," Ms. Baisey says. One woman said the singer helped with her grief over losing her 15-year-old son to leukemia. Another had just left an abusive relationship, and Mr. Castro gave her hope.

Can that be said about any other idol? And you just know that if this was connected to Robot Archie, it would have been mentioned.

A
performance where he is just standing with the mike and really projecting. I think all this sitting is reinforcing the weak voice stereotype. I don't need him to peel the paint off the wall, just sing out

Agree with you 100%. 35 years in choirs have taught me that you can't fill the lungs while sitting. I believe the performance where his voice actually sounded strongest was "Hallelujah", and next to that was "Travelin' Through", both while standing. On "Hallelujah" (second verse), he actually sounded pretty powerful.

Merely from following Ace Young's career and reading the occasional story about other idols, I am 100% positive that many, if not all, of the idols receive similar letters. For whatever reason, people connect to their favorites.

I really like Jason a lot but I honestly don't think he is unique in this area.

With this degree, and several years of apprenticeship, Jason would be able to supervise the building of things - anything from houses to wastewater treatment plants, depending on his specialty. It's not as rigorous as an engineering degree but no walk in the park either. I have a very capable nephew in his last year working towards the same type of degree, and it's kicking his ass a little. Considering how right-brained Jason appears to be, I'm extremely impressed he can hang with this program.

Edited to change wastedwater to wastewater - sorry Jason.

I agree, I can see many of the idols provoking a powerful connection. I just especially see it in Jason - he seems to be such a pure person, it's easy to imagine why people feel so inspired by him.

I think Jason's personality and how he carries himself appeals to fans. He seems very calm and centered amidst the craziness that is Idol. I've met Justin Guarini a few times and he's the same way...very centered.

Love the way that Jason has snuck up on TPTB, fans and viewers. Heh.

My friend wasnt that impressed with him, of course guys with dreadlocks are not her type at all, but she said he just seemed kinda out of it and didnt say much. So yeah I thought that was a weird.

That's not surprising. If he really is as shy as he seems, then he quite possibly freezes up when he's around a group of people he's not familiar with. Shy people often get stuck with one of two labels: slow and not quite with it, or stuck up and aloof. And assumptions like that normally makes them lock up even more, especially if people in the group are giving off the "what's wrong with you" vibe.
Someone on IDF (the supposed family friend) posted earlier today that he's going to be moving around next week.

That could be good or bad. He needs to stay far, far away from anything cheesy, like Mee-Shell. Whatever he does, I think he's going to need to be really great on both of his performances. A lot of people see this as a theme he should be good at, so he really needs to bring it.

This week could decide whether he makes it into the Top 3 or not. At this point, he could still get back in it if he does well Tuesday. And oh how I love to see TPTB sweat over it, because he was so not ever in their epic season 7 plan. Not to mention the joy I get out of seeing Randy Jackson whine about it being a popularity contest, which loosely translates to "America's not listening to meee."

This... scares me. Just stand up, play the guitar, and sing something upbeat, boy!
You're totally right about the importance of Jason's performance this week midnightsnark, he really has to be on his game. Why am I so damn nervous over someone I don't even know?

In other cuteness, Carly, in an interview was asked who she thought might win:
"It's anyone's game," said Smithson, of San Diego. "People have their favorites already, if you know what I mean. It could be anything. Castro could look into the camera and bat his eyelids, go into his amazing falsetto voice. Brooke could melt someone's heart. Everyone's so different. Nobody saw Michael Johns going home. Nobody saw Alaina Whitaker going home. There's all these shocking eliminations. There could be another shocker."

And finally, a cool shot, because his face is ridiculously beautiful... almost like a sculpture.

That is a cool picture. I wonder if Todd's ,Carly's hubby, facial tattoos really inspired Jason's make up for the Ford ad or if he was just having a laugh.

I'm not too nervous about this week because I still think about the "Cats" remarks and smile. Unlike ALW, Neil will probably get Jason and what he is about musically.

.

And other people think he's a brain-dead stoner. Evidently they have not heard about his SAT scores and his full scholarship to Texas A&M.

I think it's really just that he's so shy, and he talks so little, that people can perceive him as they wish, with little to contradict it, for both the fans and the haters.

Please talk about the topic instead of endlessly complaining about anybody who doesn't agree with you. You've now been asked several times.
