» David Cook: You Had Me at "Hello"
TWoP Moderator

This is neither a fan club nor a support group, it's a discussion website about television. This thread is about David Cook -- not what's going on with your junk, or lecturing everybody that disagrees with you about how amazing he is. Get a blog. If you are interested in starting a fan club on this thread about how much fun we're all having talking about how great David is, you need to take it somewhere else. This thread is for David. Not for fandom, not for shilling your CafePress merchandise, not for bullying people with different opinions or misusing the FTC/TP or dogpiling on them, not for discussing other boards, and not for fandom grudges. David.

If you want to make a wiki about David, or a list of words that he has once said, go do that. If you want to "squee" and talk about your ovaries, go do that. If you want to wax philosophical about things that have reminded you of David, no matter how strained or ludicrous the connection, or how commonplace those things are, feel free. But do it somewhere else. If your post mentions your age or how silly you feel being so very much in love with David, contains the terms "squee" or "Mavid" or "DC=42," arranges off-board forums, communities, IRL stalking, RPS and shipping, or lists of random crap, reconsider. If your post otherwise attempts to sandbag the thread into a de facto fan forum, you're breaking the rules. Break them in this thread, and you'll be banned from the site. Thanks.

From TWoP Gadget: Just because this thread is in "Old American Idol" and not in the current season -- doesn't mean the rules have changed. This is not a place for a virtual pissing match between fans and non-fans.

The DolphinGate comments have me rolling, particularly the reference to Ace Ventura! Bah!

Just have to say, I can't stop listening to Optimistic to a Fault. I won't admit how many times I've replayed it this morning. :O What I wouldn't do to get my hands on that album.

Add me to the list thinking about getting tour tickets. It hurts to even admit that out loud as I have distinct memories of giving my BIL and SIL serious shit about going last year. I have a feeling ticket sales are going to be much better this year. I might have to liquor up though to sit through some of the other idols!

DolphinVideoGate is by far the best "gate" so far. One hundred percent much ado about nothing. My take: David is being big-brotherly (in the nice way, not the 1984 way) to Jason and taking care of his manners by telling him not to point. Or not. In any case, it's so harmless as to be completely ridiculous.

Clearly, he has upped the ante given the physical abuse during the dolphin photo shoot. I hope the producers get things under control before DC shanks Jason on the sofas or something.

That guitar he smashed up in the early photo shoot?

That's right...Jason's.

We've always known he's of bad character. ALL SEASON LONG he's been wearing that orange bracelet just to exploit for his own selfish purposes that little girl in Tampa Bay with Leukemia.

Save the Word Nerd, Save the World

Hilarious. Especially the end.

ETA: This video has probably been posted before, but I just saw it for the first time. It's a 6.5 minute interview apparently done around T24 announcements. It gives more insight into personality than any other I've seen. It's the one that mentions the laptop and car he wants if he wins, his favorite bands and the fact that he's here to enjoy this, not just to experience it.

And yes, I've been youtube stalking Cookie this morning instead of doing that boring work stuff, why do you ask?

Dolphingate. *snort* By far the best gate of all the gates.

4. He had "Castro Stinks" written on the palm of his right hand.

And that? Holy crap. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

"Sweet Dreams" is one of those songs that would be either OMGAMAZING or just terrible. I'm hoping for at least one classic rock type song. I loved "All Right Now" and think he works well with that kind of vibe. I'm just excited to see what goes down. If there were any week for an early spoiler leak? Yeah, that'd be now. Take our minds off all the anti-Castro, dolphin beating attention. Heh.

That guitar he smashed up in the early photo shoot?

That's right...Jason's.

Aha! I knew it looked familiar! He's certainly a bad seed.

he needs to stay away from the power ballad sound of AIRNIY this week.

Agree. I really want him to just come out and rock the house down. My choices for that would be AC/DC - Highway to Hell (I know it will never happen in a million years on AI but dammit, it would be made of awesome); Elvis Costello - Pump It Up (I'd love to see him do this one with no Bandzilla, just his guitar, which I've seen Elvis do); Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son; Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (show off the guitar skills); Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love; The Kinks - You Really Got Me; any of the U2 choices; David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (still my number one choice for him to sing).

Since this is Cookie, you know there are going to be WTF choices. In that case, here are some ideas: Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf (a WTF choice that he could kill on); Big Star - September Gurls (it's very pop but something he could sing pretty straight and sound great doing); Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing (Cooktards would probably drop dead from all the sexay but what a way to go); Richard Hell & the Voidoids - (I Belong to the) Blank Generation (just to hear some punk on AI would be awesome and this is a not-so-obvious choice); Roxy Music - Love Is the Drug and the ultimate WTF choice, Gary Glitter - Rock ‘N’ Roll Part 2.

Count me as another one who will be attending the tour, whether it be with friends or by myself if need be (hubby would never go in a million years and that's ok with me). I haven't gone to one since Season 2 but there's no way in hell I'm missing my chance of seeing Cookie in the flesh.

As far as Dolphingate goes, you guys are killing me! Love it.

Thanks for the warning quackerz! I'll make sure to pace myself. ;) I'd hate to be passed out by the time DC makes an appearance. I need to remember it for my fantasies later on.

Cook: "Hey, Archie, did you hear about the new pirate movie starring me and Jason Castro?"

Archie: "No. . ."

Cook: "It's Arrrrrmgate!"

I encountered this interview. I don't care for this guy one way or the other, but it seems to reveals a bad character of his.

Er..yah, whatever. I, too, love him all the more for his foul mouth and adorable sarcasm (and let's not forget, his liking of Flight of the Conchords). I would so loove to be breaking some "trite" Missouri laws with him as well...

What's up with people who want their rock stars all unicorns and puppy dog ears (I'm, lookin' at you, Archuleta)?

LOL! You may want to take it slow. I've only been to one Idol concert (season 4) but if I recall correctly, the higher the Idolette places on the show, the later they come out on stage. I don't think Carrie Underwood came out until very last. So, if David were to win, he would be the final idol on stage. And I'd hate to think you'd be too liquored up to enjoy or remember...I am totally joking, drink as much as you want--have a blast! I know I intend to!

While this was definitely true S4 and S5, last year Jordin was interspersed throughout the show (I didn't really like S6's tour format). That said, quackerz warning is valid. S4 the tour hit the ATL on a Sat night and the 4 of us met for martinis before the concert. Like 10 cranberry-and-vodkas into the concert, I barely remember that Carrie was even there and the only thing I clearly remember about Bo was dancing in the aisles to Sweet Home Alabama (my home state's holy anthem).

MsGrizzle, I swear I saw a link to this earlier in the thread but now I can't find it at all. Where did you find this song?

Selianth Here is the video. Someone also was kind of enough to rip it to an mp3 but I don't have that original link. Maybe s/he will post it again?

You're a star, thank you. I would LOVE to have an mp3 version, but I would love even more to be able to hear the whole album. I hope even if they don't/can't release it as is after the show, he is at least able to either release some songs or put them on future albums.

Thank you for that. I hadn't seen it either. Funny he says "all that jazz". I thought my husband was the only one who said that with any regularity, but apparantly I need to stop making fun of him for it.

40 or so posts deleted, lots of Claymates banned. For the record, the proper response to getting trolled is not, in fact, to act like assholes.

I'm locking the thread for a day or two.
