» In Plain Sight: Marshal Marshall?

Trivia: Did you know that she starred in a very steamy TV movie called Apology with Peter Weller, who is Frederick's uncle? Small world huh? And she was GOOD in that movie too.

Actually, Peter and Fred are first cousins. Their fathers are twins.

Love this show.

Hilarious, surreal wrap-up to the bad guy getting away on the horse ("Despite my athletic prowess, and my desire to please you, I cannot outrun a horse.") when Dershowitz inexplicably appeared on horseback with the lassoed criminal:

"How cool is that?"

"S'up yo?"

"Where did he get a lasso?"

So funny.

This recent ep was my first, but I enjoyed it a fair bit. I agree with you guys saying it's got a lot of "Veronica Mars" in it, but to be honest, when I was watching I was thinking of "Karen Sisco" instead. Except Sisco the character was a lot more together; Mary's a lot more like VM, with the heaping servings of hostility towards everyone.

It's definitely a funny show and with Dave Foley on next week, there's no way I'll miss the next ep.

This was my least favorite ep so far. I'm not sure I like the device that has appeared in the last two eps of skipping in time from "Mary first meets witness" to "Mary encounters the witness much later after he or she has changed significantly." It seems like it could get awkward over time.

I didn't like how trashy Mary looked (she described the needed look as "slutty" because it was a bachelorette party). Her sister has never looked that much like an actual whore. Also, I thought she looked DREADFUL. Not slutty but still sexy. Like hot mess. Like her sister was playing a cruel joke on her. She seemed to be wearing a scrunchy, a murdered lavender carnival prize, and a sequined dress.

I also didn't like the mambo part. This ep just seemed to be all over the place and for no reason other than to be quirky or something.

I'll probably keep watching though since the other two eps were more enjoyable for me.

I'd like to reiterate that I'm only watching this show for Marshall.

That is all.

No one's brought it up, but I'm wondering what people's interpretation was of the nonverbal exchange between Mary and her boss regarding her dress. As he stands behind Marshall, he picks up the dress, holds it up to himself, and kind of gestures to Mary, who nods. Marsahall turns around and Mary's boss quickly drops the dress and walks away. "What just happened?" Marshall asks, and Mary shrugs.

Well: What did just happen? I assumed it meant that Mary's boss was a cross-dresser and he was asking if he could borrow the dress. That could, I acknowledge, be wildly off-base since it comes out of left field and was never followed up.

Other people have other thoughts?

I rather liked the episode, if only because mom was nowhere to be found. :-)

Marshal is quickly becoming my favorite character. His one liners are awesome and I loved his mambo scene with the boss.

The witness in this one was pretty good. I enjoyed seeing her piss off Mary. When she was telling her MIL-to-be and friends about Mary going all Catholic schoolgirl, I was just cracking up.

And because it can't be said enough....Dershowitz + horse = comedy gold

I think the boss was non-verbally asking if the dress was Marshall's. Since, you know, he was already kind of suspect from the mambo lessons. Mary being Mary, she threw Marshall under the bus.

That's what I got--I had to watch the scene twice but Mary drops the dress on Marshall's desk and the boss nods his head towards Marshall while holding up the dress and looking at Mary.

Best part of the episode. . .by far.

That makeunder of Mary was just awful. I mean, really, really hideous. What was that?

My dislike of the train scene was compounded because I thought that was the end of the Purple Probe. I have a friend trying to unload that very car (back in the day the dealer tried to convince her it was blue, not purple) and I want her to contact the producers and sell them her car--they're going to need a backup at some point.

eta: Oh, and the only good thing about the family is that it helps to have fast-forwardable material when you're trying to empty your TiVo.

I really enjoyed this episode and definitely agreed that Marshall stole the show.. My favorite line was at the end when Mary was telling him to chase the African and he said the thing about not being able to outrun a horse...

I also really liked when mary referred to the party as a "froo froo slut fest".. I agree that i liked the witness this episode because she put Mary in her place. I liked how much she pissed her off at the beginning but i also liked how they became friends at the end.

I don’t understand how Marshall should be the one who's suspect. The boss initiated the dancing between them. Marshal was kind of freaked at first and being his cool self, he went with the flow.

I'm with you Cynthia 187, I'm only watching this show for Marshal, too.

I've enjoyed the episodes, but really am only watching for Marshall. So if they make him fall for Mary too (like every other male on the show!) I may have to stop. I like their relationship how it is: partners and friends. Mary's already this close to being a Mary Sue.

I didn't like that the sight of Mary's low cut top, turned him into a incoherent dweeb. Although, I'm wondering if Marshall's supposed to be a bit of a perv (in a good way) as he tried to peek at her sis when she went topless (which was funny) and he said something naughty to the deaf girl in the pilot so she slapped him and then smiled (and since he smiled to I think whatever he said was deliberate and not him messing up the sign language).

I love men who can be both a badass and a dork.

I'm glad someone explained the thing with the dress. Kinda weird. I noticed that when Stan (the boss) made Marshall mambo with him that Stan was leading and Marshall was following. Surprising since Marshall would be learning to lead in his lessons.

Anybody else getting a "Mr. Carlson"-ish (WKRP in Cincinnati) vibe from Stan? I can't quite accept that a top level US Marshal supervisor would be such a buffoon. (Yes, yes, I know! It's only a TV show! And a summer TV show at that! Quit taking it so seriously!)

Seems as if the show can't decide whether it wants to be a comedic drama or a dramatic comedy. Please, please improve the scriptwriting! (And the directing, for that matter!)

Stan was such a clueless idiot, that during the pilot I figured he must be another marshall, but an inept one, who hangs around the office. Finally, I sensed that M & M were informing him about the case. Then Stan said asked, "Why do I never know what's going on?" and Marshall said, "That's because you are the big picture guy." So I figured out he's inept, but the supervisor. It is a stretch of belief that they'd have a Stan like supervisor. I think of Lt. Anita on Law and Order. She is sharp as a tack. I do have a bit of a problem with the guy in charge being such a buffoon.

I love the police detective (can't spell his name, darn it.) It is fun to see him desperately trying to solve and prevent murders around Mary's complete lack of cooperation. The detective lassoing the remaining bad guy and riding him in was a great scene. It's fun stuff like that that keeps me tuning in. I know Mary is annoying, and a hard ass, but I kind of root for her. Per, Brenda on the Closer, I've come to like female leads that are totally competent at their jobs, while being a bundle of neurosis. Makes for fun watching by me.

I thought this one was a step backward from episode 2, but still better than episode 1. The whole relationship with the Cristian de la Fuente character is cliched so the train scene fit right in. That's a shame because I really like Cristian. I am still enjoying Marshal but I agree with those that thought his being unable to handle Mary's boobs showing was too much. She's an attractive woman but come on! The outfit was laughable not sexy.

P.S. So glad mom was no where to be seen.

I see more spark between Mary's BF and Mary's sis than I do between him and Mary - am I crazy ?
Also I like the chemistry between Marshall and Mary and refer to them as the M & M twosome LOL !
