Does anyone know the song MG used for her runway show? 'Cause that song was fierce.

It's called "Get Up and Go" by David Rancourt and Antoine Rochette (members from the Montréal band The Mission District)

From MySpace
Project Runway Canada
David and Antoine wrote a song for Marie Genevieve Cyr to use during the final episode of Project Runway Canada. She came in 3rd! Congratulations MG! Here is a clip of the show. Fast forward to 4.20 for MG & the song. (Watch it)

It looks like the song was written specially for her runway show so bonus points for MG.

Biddell played Romantic Right by Death From Above 1979 and Lucian had Summer Sun by Koop.

I've just watched the season from beginning to end for the second time. It's interesting how the story somewhat changes or becomes clearer when you already know the characters and watch their arc.

There were some fun editing choices as well which call into question whether or not the show was edited after all filming was done. For example when Iman says in the very first episode, "One of you will be the first ever winner of Project Runway Canada", the camera immediately cuts to Biddell's face.

It is true that Lucien, Biddell, and Mary Genevieve were quite early a clear top three. However, Biddell was not the early top leader that I originally thought. It was Mary Genevieve's competition to lose. And also Kendra and Shernett were quite competitive.

I forgot how the Megan drama just went on and on and on. It really was painful. I think from a viewers point, the Megan arc was the one that made the least sense, because we see what the designers see...it really did seem like the judges made mistake after mistake with that.

It was really interesting to watch Stephens arc from the beginning. He absolutely was the heart of the show. He was always there with the right words - if they needed to be kind they were, if they needed to be kicking Biddell's young cocky ass - they were. He really has an amazing way with people.

Oh, dear.

In today's Vancouver Sun, there was the yearly list of important things/people. For the 'Style' section there were, I seem to recall, three or four notables. None of them were the fact a Vancouver-based designer won the inaugural Project Runway Canada, nor that there were two Vancouver-based designers on the show :-P

Now that's nutty.

The Project Rungay site started their coverage of the final three's collections and maybe Stephen's collection will be included as well: PRC: Ripping the Collections - Lucian Matis.
Ouch!

Looks like Stephen is doing all right, even if he didn't make it to the top three - he and his partner made it to the top 10 to watch for in 2008 in The Star today. The article says that Greta Constantine debuted their line at L'Oreal Fashion Week, so he didn't even need to make it to the top three!

Yay Stephen!

Although this makes me wonder - did the producers already know that he had a show for Fashion Week? Would he have been expected to showcase two lines? From his reaction he seemed genuinely upset about being not being in the top three - but would he have been so upset if he knew that he was just going home to do the same work as the top three contestants?

Yeah, well ol Ev' didn't even make the list of "underdogs who broke through in 2007" by the Lifestyles/Entertainment guy in his hometown newspaper. The reporter's an idiot, but still, considering Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist making an appearance at a local music store rated a mention in the column, that's kinda sad.

Heh, that was indeed brutal. I kinda think of the top 4, Lucian will benefit professionally the least from the exposure on PRC; he got so raked in all the ways that matter with his collection that at 28 years old, he seems pigeon-holed as a derivative, oldish designer. But on a creative level, I wonder if working with designers like MG & Biddell (who are derivative too, like everything is, but in a hipper kind of way) will have any longterm effect. I think he's capable, but I dunno if he's willing. Somehow I envision a harem of Rita-types coddling him.

It would have been cool if all the designers had posted a blog after the final show aired with their thoughts on how they came across etc.

And I hate that we didn't get a reunion show.

ETA:
Who thinks Biddell will disappear into oblivion in a few years? Just me? (He needs to find a solid business partner, IMO)

Well, considering he (allegedly) blabbed the results before the show aired, and (allegedly) blabbed about hooking up with Lucian during the show (which, if it's true, was probably against the rules and therefore stupid to talk about; and, if not true, is kinda pathetic to lie about). . . . I'm guessing the dude genuinely doesn't have a lot of self-control and will have major problems playing nice when he needs to. E.g. for the Winners part of the prize. (I dunno how seriously he's required to take that. Is there a contract with specific requirements, or is it kinda open-ended?) Maybe if he moved into Brian Bailey's guest room and had a daily scolding, he'd be able to get over himself enough to capitalize on the break.

I think we'll see him turn up on Slice, if nowhere else, in the near future. From comments a number of the contestants have made, he was the producers' favourite boy.

Yay for Stephen indeed. Although he wasn't my favorite designer on the show, he certainly was my favorite person. I still laugh rewatching his comments.

I don't even know where to find this out but how did PRC actually do in the TV ratings numbers - especially in relation to other slice in-housy productions?

Augh! I'm going crazy waiting for Project Rungay to update with their comments on Biddells collection!

I think any form of partnership would benefit Lucian. In the 2008 mini-collection, he was restrained by Megan and Shernett to not over embellish their designs. In the opposites challenge, Lucian and Stephen decided to copy each other's method of work and Lucian benefitted from Stephen's clean and minimalist approach while Stephen's design, and I am not sure here, showed Lucian's style depended on overembellishment.

With that, I hope Project Runway Canada will create a challenge where a designer will copy the style of another designer because it has the possibility of showing the best and worst of a designer's style if emulated correctly. And also a jacket/coat challenge I thought the final 3 produced really good coats and jackets.

OK, they're not really all that similar, but I saw this photo from some stupid new movie starring the Grey's Anatomy chick about bad bridesmaid dresses (or something like that), and for half a sec I thought it was this. Just for a second.

And. . . for all the Biddy + Lulu speculation. . . anyone think MG had a few really special feelings for Drea, her model?

ETA:
Didn't see this National Post article posted yet, featuring Biddell & Brian Bailey. (Holy, does BB look aged in that pic.) For all the media the article mentions him doing, I sure didn't see much coverage. And nothing at all from the other two finalists. (Other than a 3 question Q&A somewhere.) Not sure airing the finale right before Christmas was excellent timing.

ETA2:
OK, now this is another older link; a long(!) interview with Brian Bailey. Not PRC-related (at all), but some insight into the man behind the porn stache. Mildly interesting - he says repeatedly that design school is a waste of a huge amount of money and he recommends a business degree for aspiring designers. This interview would have taken place just before the finale aired. A bit of a "Delicious Dish" vibe to the whole thing. I kept waiting for them to break out the Schwetty Balls.

Oh, was rewatching PR(US) (thank you God and the Grateful Dead for torrents) and I thought I'd google ol' Biddy while watching and, lo, here's a photoshoot with some of his stuff from 2006:

I like his stuff more and more (well... at least the pieces that an ol' dame like myself could possibly wear).

I watched the entire season over the weekend and loved the crap out of it.

All the way up until the benefit auction I found Iman to be really mean and scary and then slowly started to loosen up and show how freaking awesome she is. The "hems flying" comment in the intro was painful. She was way better when talking off script. I found all the little Bowie shout outs to be adorable. I also enjoyed how it appeared that she was the final decision on the winner and how sad she was that they all made her such boring dresses.

Brian Bailey is vaguely muppet-like...in a good way. His voice reminded me of someone and I haven't been able to put my finger on it, but something about the way he talks makes me think he belongs in a Judd Apatow production. I loved his speechifying about women's bodies during the bathing suit challenge. He was saying some really good stuff about fashion and the desires of fashion consumers. I loved all the plus size models and feel bad for the one wasted by Sharnett because the bitch was OFFENDED that she had to make something beautiful for a bigger woman. She acted like it was a personal insult and the results were hideous. I kind of got her idea with the thin model's suit because it was a reference to flapper underwear, but her hating made it impossible to come up with anything nice.

Actually, Sharnett was full of self-righteousness and bitchface. I would rather have seen Carlie in the same challenge with the same era and model. She could have rocked it.

Lucian was damaged in the same challenge by being so snotty about gypsies and getting tunnel vision. His butterfly and doily shit was all about the hippies so he knew what the fuck to do, but decided to be a bitch about it.

Biddell was good television and deserved to win. He made it seem like he pulled that collection out of his ass at the last minute, but I suspect he planned it all out to the second. Good move on his part. Maybe he's a gigantic asshole, but I don't care. He grins and shows off those rosy cheeks and I can't help but love the guy.

What the hell was with Rita CRYING over Lucian's collection. Was it because she knew he didn't have a chance in hell? Doilies? Seriously? TEARS OVER THE HOPE THAT DOILIES BRING TO THIS DARK DARK WORLD.

Stephen's walk was terrifyingly beautiful. I want to see his tiny ass in drag. His designs were dull dull dull, but his personality won me over completely. He would be a wonderful mentor.
