I actually have to complement the job that the writers, and the actress, have been doing with Kitty lately (well, so far this season at least). I think she's being written a lot better than last season, that's for sure.

And what makes it even more surprising is that as a character she's in a HORRIBLE set-up. She's paired with another character who's consistently written as "perfect", so that as a counterpoint she has to always come off as in the wrong. SHE has to be the neurotic one, the one who's suspicious for no reason, the one who makes the big "boner" of a mistake which he is naturally too understanding to be believable about afterwards, she's the commitment-phobe, the loud mouth, etc. etc.

It's a situation which stinks for the actress as much as the character. It's the Meredith Grey/McDreamy type of bullsh@t.

But despite that bad setup I think the character is working. I can't say I quite know why, but it is. Theories will be accepted if anyone wants to type one.

The thing is they really HAVE written their way into a corner. We all know the Senator can't really go on to win the Presidency, with Kitty becoming First Lady, within the run of this show. Heck, I'm not even sure if it works to have her be the wife of a sitting Senator. It kind of worked to have Kitty be a media celebrity, as long as she lived locally, but having her actually land successfully in "bigger" consequences would stretch credibility for her character being so involved in the day to day life of the other Walkers.

I really felt for Kitty during the last episode. I hope the writers explore more into her character. Everyone knows that CF is good at comedy, in fact she has provided a lot of the lighter moments in the show. As a result we rarely see Kitty in her vulnerable moments. When not providing the comedy part, a lot of times she's portrayed as angry or snappish. I wish the writers would show her dealing with the miscarriage, but seeing how fast the pace is in B&S I wouldn't be surprised if Kitty even remembers being pregnant.
