» Todd Oldham: The Host With the Most
Channel Surfer

I agree - Todd makes Katie Lee and pot-induced Padma seem like Ryan Seacrest. To me the voice was totally disassociated from the body. I'd (sometimes with Bravo weird editing) see a man speaking and hear a voice - but it never occurred to me the voice was coming from the man whose mouth was moving. The voice seemed computer generated. NOBODY talks like that. I'll call him HAL even though HAL had a much better mastery of human voice inflection. Maybe Todd doesn't speak english and the whole thing was a voiceover gone wrong.

He sounded like he was talking to a group of preschoolers!

He looks ... different. I remember him from House of Style, and maybe that was a long time ago, but something's just not quite right.

I totally agree. Collagen injections in his lips, maybe? Waaaaaay too much makeup? So many possibilities.

I used to think he was adorable, but something about him really bugged me during this episode. He sounds way too rehearsed (someone upthread said he was like a tour guide, which is pretty apt), which was really off-putting. And either he was wearing too much makeup or he really needs to lay off the self-tanner. Slap a a green wig on him and he could be an old-school Oompa-Loompa.

Long have I loved Todd Oldham, but only now do I fully appreciate the voice. It's like Michelle Tanner doing her impression of Joey Gladstone doing his impression of Bullwinkle J. Moose.

Bizarrio.

he sounds like kenneth the page from 30 Rock...

I almost yelled "THAT'S IT" out loud when I read this in the recaplet. I was trying to place the voice the whole episode and it was driving me insane. Thank you for delaying the insanity another day.

I spent the first part of the episode wondering why they had a Muppet from Sesame Street serving as the host. I kept waiting for him to say "And now, boys and girls, we'll learn about colors. Can you say chartreuse?"

Thank you, thank you, thank you. That observation made watching the show so much more enjoyable for me last night.

All we need are cameo appearances by Alec Baldwin as Jack -- and I'm sure NBC can hook us up -- and this show would be decorating madness+comedy gold. Who could ask for more?

I find it endearing that he hit up a Sephora free-makeover-day before he came to the set.

Ok, it's not just me. I used to watch House of Style too and thought that TO was pretty cute. I saw him last night and something is wrong, I can't put my finger on it.

It's like in The Fly when Jeff Goldblum does the experiment with the steak, transports it and Gena Davis tastes it...she couldn't describe what was wrong, it was steak, but something was "artificial" about it. Did they send Todd through a transporter pod?

OMFG! That was better then the whole episode. And love that you referenced "old-school" to specify which oompa-loompa you refer to. Though...now that makes me feel old too.

Eh...36 and proud of it. Life does exist and get better after 30.

I agree. I also agree with the Kenneth from "30 Rock" comparisons. Here's what it sounded like to me:

Have you ever had a seriously emotional argument with someone right before you had to make a "public" appearance somewhere, or watched someone who did - like having it out in a car before going in to see the family, or in a parking lot before dinner with people one doesn't know very well. There's a screaming, unresolved rage behind the words, but on top is a strangled and forced cheeriness, with the emphasis on the wrong words and ending sentences where they almost sound like questions. I imagine this occurs become there's an emotional disconnect between the social situation and the real emotions roiling underneath.

I'm not implying that Todd Oldham is barely holding back some rage issues. Just that his weird vocal delivery sounds like he is. I'm sure he's nothing more than the happy, cheery, supportive muppet we've been shown.

I have to say that I really liked Todd Oldham last night. He just might be my new favorite celebrity.

I also have to say that I haven't seen 30 Rock, but my girlfriend pointed out that his voice sounds just like Danny Lightfoot's (Joe Torres') from Hey, Dude. We closed our eyes and listened, and it was hysterical.

I don't want to turn this into a big discussion about his voice, though. I'm sure he's aware it sounds different.

He was so cute!

LOL, RaffTupp, I hadn't noticed that, but now I'll totally be listening for it. Hey Dude, Mr. E, I haven't thought about it in ages!

he looks like he has no front teeth when the camera shoots him from below
I thought he looked like a vampire in those shots. I completely distracted by the vampire look when he was giving the pre-task speech to the designers, as well as being distracted by the voice. I don't even remember what he said to them.
