» Show Me The Money

Well, I'm totally on board. This show is so trippy. Actually, it reminds me of Laugh In (which I'm way too young to have enjoyed first hand, but you know what I mean). With Shatner as host, and the dancing, and the goofy theme song, this show is not to be taken seriously. It's so tongue-in-cheek, I'm actually surprised it's not a bigger hit 'round these TWoParts.

Aside from all that, I really like that they've structured the game to not let the contestant out while they're ahead. I think that's a big part of what's wrong with 1 vs. 100.

As for the dancers themselves, I couldn't have cared less until their abs mesmerized me. Now I barely see the money amounts on the banners. Maybe I just need to do more crunches.

I swear to God, if that fat bastard had said "That's what I'm talkin about" one more time I was going to scream. It could have been a damn drinking game.

They got a question wrong tonight. The Beatles song "Maggie Mae" was a traditional Liverpool folk song, not Rod Stewart's hit song, which was released in 1971, after the breakup of the Beatles. And it wasn't lost, it was on the Let It Be album. Unless they were talking about the supposed cocaine-fueled sessions in 1974 where Paul McCartney allegedly joined John Lennon, Phil Spector, and Stevie Wonder in a drugged-out secret jam.

Dude. I knew there was something wonky about that question. Maybe they will let that lady have a do-over. That's a pretty bad screw up.

While apparently designed in some TV Hack Producers' Hell, this isn't that bad a show. The simplicity of a "six right, six wrong" accumulating money/debt works for me. The questions are also hard enough to involve thought (last night involved knowing Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield and forgotten actor Emil Jannings). There are obviously toolish things about it, but I like it better than 1 vs. 100.

Can't they come up with a more creative way to get the contestants to say "Show me the money!" than for Shat to say "What's the name of this show?" I'm so over this show.

I'm not a Trekkie, but a casual fan of Star Trek. I am vaguely familiar with the rest of the Shat canon of works. From what I've seen of him over the years he seems like a genuinely nice man who hasn't let fame make him into a jerk. I wish they could find something more meaningful for him to do besides this crap. Something along the lines of Extreme Home Makeover, where he could show off his people skills and do some charitable stuff. Just a thought.
