» On the Road with 16 Children (And Other Duggar Family Programs)

Please remember that this topic is for discussing the Duggars. It is not about
  • other TV shows.
  • homeschooling in general.
  • religion in general. Please watch the generalizations about what "Fundies" do or believe; when you make sweeping generalizations like that, someone else may want to disagree or clarify, and that's taking the conversation away from the show.
  • how funny another poster is. If you're only posting to compliment someone, take it to PM or email.
  • your own life, your family members, your friends, people you work with, your church, your school, your neighbors, etc.
You can of course mention these things if they are part of a larger comment about the show. But they should not be the main subject of your post. Ridiculous example: "Michelle said they do the hokey-pokey every morning for religious reasons; my entire family is Baptist and I've never heard of that before." That would be fine, but you should not go on to discuss what you did do in your church, and the reasons you did that, and what you thought about it. Unless you're on the show, the topic here isn't your life.

When you're writing a post, please reread what you've written and ask yourself if you're really talking about the TV show before you click "Add Reply." Thank you.

QUESTION-Are the parents likely to go by birth order in finding spouses for the children? I would hope if they find a boy Jinger fancies that is supposed to go to Jessa they would take that in to account.

I'd say that at 41 Michelle has at the most 2 to 3 pregnancies left in her. Fertility typically drastically declines in the 40's. I'd be shocked if she got pregnant past 45 for sure, most likely not past 43. Although she certainly is extremely fertile. My great aunt had 16 kids with no multiples and the last was born when she was 40 (Catholic, no birth control.)

As far as something going wrong (like Downs, or even hemorraging and needed a hysterectomy) that's got a good chance of happening as well. I hope not, and statistically speaking it probably won't, but it's a possibility. I'm sure that JB and Michelle know this.

I could imagine that if this child is born with Down's Syndrome, they would start interrogating the older children to find out who was touching themselves at night.

...Or they could see it as Gods will and believe he has a plan.At least such a child would be in bosum of large, close family with the resources to deal with any health issues, for what its worth.

...Or force an 11-year-old daughter to care for said child, despite being ill-equipped to do so.

What makes you think they have the resources to deal with any health issues?

They would probably be thrilled if their child was born with health problems- especially if it's something like conjoined twins. Discovery Health would want to continue with update specials for decades to come.

I would imagine the Duggars would be just as thrilled as any other family if they had a child with severe health problems. That is to say, not terribly thrilled at all.

Must report!

I was sitting around the patio with a bunch of neighbors last night. One of our neighbors is a regional distributor for a well known water company. The kind that has accounts with businesses and homes in regards to water coolers and accessories. Anyway, she was at a homeschool conference a couple of summers ago and she tells us last night that she met the Duggars and a couple other well known families. We yelled, "TELL ALL!" She reports that the 2 eldest girls seem to be accountable for everyone. She felt they were overworked and one of them seemed depressed the whole few days. If a small child scrapes his/her knee the parents would reprimend one of the eldest girls whether they were in the vicinity or not. Apparently it is their job to keep track of everyone. She said the eldest boy is kind of creepy and other families would pull their kids away if he was hanging out with them. She said the youngest group of children seem to be less controlled and have a lot of leeway. She liked these kids best for they were pretty funny and were acting like normal kids. She said this group included a lot of little boys and a couple of little girls.

It doesn't suprise me at all that the older girls were taking care of the little ones, or that people were pulling their kids away from Josh, or for that matter that he's now engaged. I hope that poor girl knows what she's getting into, Josh seems way too interested in the family's lifestyle. I'd be scared if my daughers were hanging around him!

Also suprised to see in the link upthread that Johannah's special quality or whatever it is that they called it is obedience. Not from what I've seen, especially since in that very article a picture was provided that showed Johannah with her head down on the table during prayer time.

This is a cute link where someone uses the Sims to simulate a Wife Swap with the Duggars and the Gosselins. The names of the Sim Duggars cracked me up. The author did a good job sim-ulating the Duggars house.

We've seen the homeschooling on the various Duggar shows, but I don't recall either parent mentioning why they homeschool. It seems odd because most homeschoolers I've known in real life are pretty open about why they homeschool. Have Jim Bob or Michelle ever elaborated on this on any of the shows?

I can guess what the Duggars reasons are (heathen exposure) and I suspect they don't bring them up because they are aware they would look (even more) like nutcakes.

Thanks for sharing Maggy, I want episode two right away. :)

I wonder what both groups would think of their Sims versions? I like the names they chose for the faux Duggar kids.
