As someone who mourned the loss of Sex and the City, it is wonderful to see Cindy Chupack's auteur fingerprint all over this show ... the format similiarities in the form of a question that Carrie used to ask as part of her column is now Marin's on-air radio musings. The voice over ending the show reminds me of it too. Couple that with the wonderful characters, dialogue and scenery (I love Alaska .. and can't wait to go back there again) ... and I can easily understand why this has quickly become my favorite new show of the season (love Ugly Betty too).

Why do we have two situations where there are two women for one man in a town with 10 to 1 odds?

The ancient wisdom about Alaska used to be that "the odds are good, but the goods are odd." I agree, it does seem odd that women are in fierce competition (I thought the unicorn/comforter scene was worthy of I Love Lucy, a compliment in my book) when men don't seem to have much to do but hang out at the Chieftain. But perhaps that is it.

Meanwhile, I am disappointed about the recent romantic developments. I wanted Merrin to prevail. Ah, well.

All I could think about during the skating scenes was, why is a pregnant women, esp. one who knows her baby isn't sure to make it, ice skating??!!

I like the house and Marin's decision to buy it. (Even though all I could think of when they had the conversation with the lady who was leaving... what was she going to do if Marin hadn't come along, just lock the door and leave it?) At least it eliminates most of the "I'm going to leave Elmo, there's nothing here for me" storylines.

I don't mind Lynn (although I'm sure the show will have Marin and Jack together before long), but the thing that really bothered me in the previews was her whining to Jack, "Why do you have to go help Marin?" Since he was in an "official" car, wouldn't that be part of his job? Or, at the very least, what neighbors do for each other in small towns?

I thought the exact same thing.

I am so happy Marin found her Walden Pond.

You only need sit still long enough in some attractive spot in the woods that all its inhabitants may exhibit themselves to you by turns.

The TV commercial during Desperate Housewives shows Jane kissing Plowguy, not someone else ... at least that is what it looked like to me and I rewound and freeze framed 3 times.

I hope we get one scene where someone in town fills in Lynn on the Jack/Marin connection....it makes no sense that no one has..........

And I think I am the only one on this board who doesn't particularly like Mai. Her voice is like nails on a chalk board to me, even without the megaphone.

I'm right there with you, marie1111. She seems awfully rude most of the time. My hate started when she stole Marin's wardrobe. OK, so she first got her paws on it legitimately but once she found out the backstory she should have returned it. It annoyed me no end that she refused and thought it was all quite hilarious.

I'm surprised she hasn't read Marin's NEW YORKER piece.

Now, that's a thought. I volunteer to slip it inside her mailbox:)

Wait, I'm confused. I thought Lynn DID know about Jack and Marin....?

oh, I just meant that while she knows they were starting something together, I would pay money to see Theresa or Patrick just let it slip into conversation just how much Jack had fallen for her, that the L word was mentioned, that it wasnt just a dating thing.....basically I hate Lynn and want her to suffer LOL........

Does anyone in Elmo outside of Marin and Jack know that the L word was tossed around? I could be wrong, but I don't think so ... I know that Jane knows (and maybe she told Plow Guy), but I don't think anyone in Elmo has that info. And I don't think Marin's the type to spread it around after Jack has already made his choice.

I wasn't just annoyed or jarred with seeing Jack & Lynn all smoochy; I felt like I was watching my boyfriend cheat on me. Now, I realize that I'm not the only one who finds James Tupper is incredibly hot and wants him as my boyfirend, but I was still surprosed by my reaction.

Boo Lynn! BOO!!

I've only watched a few episodes of this show. When I remember that its on I watch it. but I was reading the past few posts. I was suprised to read that JB was supposed to leave? It this true? I read at TV SQUAD that she was a permanent cast member. I even went back a looked where I saw it and here it is.

Teresa talked Lynn into staying, making Justine Bateman a permanent cast member.

So did they get it right or are they wrong?

I thought JB originally came in as a guest star, which was fine with me because I saw her as serving a purpose and leaving. Buh-bye.

I agree that seeing her and Jack 'making out' so exuberantly was pretty jarring, since it wasn't clear to me at that point that Jack had made his choice. It WAS clear that he was hurting because of her returning pregnant with another man's child when she hadn't wanted to have children with him, so I found it hard to believe he was suddenly over that.

I'm not complaining that he and JB then 'went all the way" because I wanted to see some bare Tupper flesh and really didn't care how that was accomplished, but I'm not thrilled that she was invited so easily back into his nest.

And Justine? Pluck those eyebrows!
