I thought she was really really charming on her apperance on Last Call with Carson Daly (her first talk show appearance). But why the ponytail Minka? We see it enough on this show plus you look much more attractive with your hair down.

I got a kick out of the fact that kids use to tease her because of her name and call her 'Stinka Smelly' among other names.

She has taken some heavy hits, but that fury seems to have settled as the season went on and she became a little less prominent in the storylines. I'm actually more impressed with her and less impressed with Scott now that he's out of the hospital. She's been given better material thus far.

And I would definitely love to see Minka in future roles. Or, really, in future seasons of FNL. I think she's just getting started and she'd probably be considered Emmy worthy with a few seasons under her belt.

I just had to say what an amazing job MK did in her "Mud Bowl" scene with SP! Wow. She really brought it, and I think her delivery was perfect for what was happening with the characters. The way she let out with "I do it because I love you, stupid!" was tremendous.

I think she's really improved this season and I look forward to seeing even better stuff from her next year (because there will be a next year, of course).

Credit where credit is due, and I think she deserves some!

I met Minka today in L.A. in the building where I have my doctor's appointment.

After my appointment, I went to use the bathroom, but since there's only one ladies toilet and it was occupied, I had to wait until the person using it vacated it.

Well, the door opens and out comes a really pretty brunette wearing a white tank and jeans, her hair in a ponytail. Hmmm, I thought, this girl looks really familiar. When it hit me: She's on Friday Night Lights!

"Hey, aren't you on Friday Night Lights?"

She turns around and gives me a 1000-watt smile. "Yes! I am."

I started to get all fangirly. "I love that show! I started to Tifaux it because of the great reviews. I love you on it. It's really a fantastic show."

"Thank you! I'm Minka, by the way." She extended her hand to shake mine. "What's your name?"

I shook her hand. It was firm! I hate limp-wristed handshakes, so the girl obviously knows how to make an impression. It pays to be sincere and have a firm handshake when you meet casting directors, I assume.

"I'm Esther. Minka Kelly, right? Well, it was so nice to meet you. So are you guys getting renewed for a second season?"

She said she didn't know. And then I wished her luck.

She's very, very pretty in person. You never know, since good lighting can make anyone look like a supermodel, but she actually is quite stunning.

This sort of reminds me of another random celebrity spotting from last year: The guy who played Lemonhead on The Shield. He was working out at my apartment gym when I was living in Park La Brea in L.A., and he was also really nice. I told him that I absolutely loved The Shield, which I discovered on DVD, and I said I just finished the fourth season, the one with Glenn Close. He was very gracious and told me the season they were filming now, which I guess was the fifth season, was the best one yet. He seemed really flattered that he got recognized. I suppose Minka Kelly was, too. It's funny that I keep running into TV actors who are on critically-beloved, but low-rated, programs. They're probably surprised when random people recognize them for their work.

I still think Minka isn't nearly as great as some of the other actors on this show, but she's definitely stepped it up lately. (and, not everyone can be as wonderful as Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, and Zach Gilford anyway)I think it also might have something to do with the writing, but I definitely think she has improved quite a bit this season. And she's totally not making me hate Lyla as much as I used to. I'm sure next season (because I will die if there isn't a next season! ) she'll be even better.

The fact that her father was a rock star (and, yes, her mother was probably a gorgeous model/actress/groupie) also explains how she got the name Minka. Musicians and actors tend not to name their children Bob or Sally!

I think a lot of the flak that Minka's getting stems from her very airy voice, which can detract from her ability to really deliver lines and connect with emotion in a scene. I do, however, believe that's getting better, and I think that she does especially well with the subtle stuff; I enjoy her connection with both Street and Riggins, I think she has good chemistry with both and am starting to enjoy her much more. She's certainly no Connie Britton or even Adrianne Palicki, but she's getting there!
