» The Rachael Ray Show
Couch Potato

Aug 23, 2006 @ 4:47 pm
Interesting...the Big O makes an appearance during the 1st week huh? Can't wait to see RayRay bow at her feet.

I found the following article (Snore) with this part interesting:

Ray, 36, says she expects guests, including her husband, lawyer and musician John Cusimano, to relax and get their hands dirty by cooking with her or playing foosball.
Can they not site another "guest" in press releases to, I don't know, gain a little interest in the show?

Probably because hubby is the only 'celebrity' she knows will show up. Oprah doesn't count, because she pretty much has to show up on the show.

Thanks for that link jalapeno, but I can't believe y'all missed the best part:
Ray, 36
,

Say what? bitch is already shaving years off her age! According to various sources she's turning 38 tomorrow. Hmm...wonder how she'll celebrate. Happy 38th! RayRay.

Maybe it was just a magazine typo, but I can't imagine her minions calling in to correct that.

Not sure if this is an apt comparison ("old creative versus young"), but here in NYC, RayRay will be on against Martha Stewart's show...interesting because Martha has always aired here at 11 a.m. against The View. And quite frankly, with the trainwreck that the View is, I would think Martha would do better against them. But then maybe TPTB think Martha will show RayRay's creative talents for being far less than the Diva of Domesticity...whatever, it will be interesting to see how the ratings fall out. (and in moving Martha to 10 a.m., the local affiliate moved Ellen to 4 p.m. against Oprah).

for what it's worth, the publishers of RayRay's magazine were recently written up in the local paper b/c they gave their top execs huge bonuses despite the company losing $117 million last year. one of the reasons they cited for the bonuses was the success of .... you got it RayRay's magazine. she better start thinking up more stoups and sammies for reader's digest to make up that shortfall!

why does everyone hate her so much? She actually seems like a pretty nice person. (She comes from the next town from me and visits often)

I don't think any of us hate RR, to hate someone would require you to care about them in the first place. I started watching her because I liked her ideas on 30MM, now I find her highly annoying, but also highly fun to snark on. I am looking forward to this new talk show just to see how big of a trainwreck it will be.

When it comes to the new RayRay show, I think the FoodBoiFriend summed it up accurately: He rolled his eyes and said "Oh, I just can't wait to miss it."

FoodBoiFriend sort of says that a lot, doesn't he? ;-)

I don't know if I'll watch RR's talk show. I don't hate her at all, in fact, I enjoy her cooking show and 40DD, even if I do sometimes tune in to snark upon her. I'm just not that interested in most talk shows, unless there is a guest I'm particularly fond of, or a topic I find especially interesting. I mean, if David Duchovny or William Fichtner show up to play some foosball, I'm there, I don't care who's hosting.

There seems to be a big difference, to me, between 'snark' and 'hate', but sometimes the lines seem to get blurred about RR, from various internet boards and articles I've read. There are certainly those whose snark seems almost vitriolic when it comes to her, like she slept with their boyfriend and ran over their dog and broke their favorite Hootie & the Blowfish cd or something. She's definitely polarizing.

Those various sources inlcude Rachael Ray herself. The first page of the latest issue of RR's magazine has the headline "Hello, 38" and is a written by RR. She's talks about turning 38.

Looks like a reporter just used an old bio rather than any effort to shave any time off her age.

I really love this thread...it totally cracked me up. I do like Rachael a lot, I've actually met her, but I think she has opened herself up to some very snark worthy moments lately! I'm glad you guys get her so well..you have really nailed so many of her quirks. I have laughed so much reading everything.

Ever notice when she opens her 30 Minute Meals show..how she talks with her hands? You can have the sound off and totally know what she's making just from the gyrations, sign language and charades she does! :) She has gotten so animated and affected the last few years, ever since they gave her a taste of celebrity with that Inside Dish show! The sweet girl next door has glammed up and moved uptown. It kind of bums me out. She was almost nerdy in the early days, bohemian, and down to earth, just a girl who loved to cook, now she's trying to be everything to everyone.

I truly think this talk show is going to be a huge mistake. The minute she became Oprah's flavor of the month, I knew the Rachael we knew and loved would soon be a thing of the past. A wise piece of advice has always been "do what you know", and what she excels at is food! I personally think the kitchen is where she shines, I have learned SO much about cooking from her, I think it's a terrible waste to try to turn her into something she's not. I really hope she has not left the Food Network, because that is the safety net that will catch her when this all goes awry. The people that don't already know her from her shows, will think she's too perky, and the people that already love her will think she's sold out! It's kind of a lose/lose situation! My opinion I know.

I met her two years ago, late 2004, at a Food Show, and she was lovely to me. She gave me a big hug, and a kiss on the cheek, said she preferred to do that instead of shaking hands. Not a hand shaker, that Rach. I am an artist, and I had painted her a very cool plate, if I don't say so myself, she said she loved it..and PROMISED to send me her newest book. I'm still waiting, but hey-- it's the thought that counts..right? She was nice enough to come talk to us, as she was sneaking a cigarette with Mario Batali at the time in her dressing room. You guys know she smokes like a chimney..right? Hence the raspiness and deepness of her voice these days. Marc Summers also from the Food Network, was kind enough to go fetch her for us, as she had thousands of groupies there waiting in line to get a chance to say "YUMMO" to her, holding homemade biscuits for the late Boo, and shirts that read "EVOO ROCKS!" I'm NOT kidding!!! :) Anyway, long story short, she came bounding out and ran up to us...smiling and very, very sweet. I gotta say, she's very pretty in person! She really has beautiful skin, and is in very good shape! The camera adds weight to her middle, but she seemed much thinner to me. So, we talked for a little while and she gushed that my husband was wearing a shirt in her favorite color, orange, she talked about John and how late she stayed up the night before, some local big wigs had taken her out bar hopping, and she was nursing a major hangover. And then she had to get back to her adoring fans. We remember thinking back then she was getting "too famous", and now it's really gotten out of control!! I think she's really getting a big head in the process too.

So, I guess I'll join in the snark fest here..we'll see how her new show goes...thanks for making me laugh!

Well our local affliliate already "blinked". RR went from the 10 am Tony Danza spot to airing at midnight after Dr. $hill on the NBC affiliate's sister channel (the new CW or whatever it is called). Instead, and I so love this, the local NBC channel is going to air infomercials. Yes infomercials. Until it can line up another show that has a "greater and more sustaining viewership potential". Not even aired yet. The local affiliate people must have seen some sort of advanced dry runs or something. Because its not like they didn't hang tight to the Tony danza show even though the local ratings for that lost to Divorce Court and PBS children's programming according to the last numbers I saw.

I just caught an interview on a local newstation. Pretty much the same ole stuff. My fave part was when she said(in hoarse Fargo voice)... "if the people start to get tired of me, I will just go back up to the mountains with my dog and husband."

Starts to get tired?!? And I love how, once again, the dog is listed before the Elf.

Geesh, you think he'd get tired of being listed behind her dog. I'm surprised that wasn't in the wedding ceremony. "I promise to love and cherish my dog, oh and you John."

She doesn't have any reason to believe that people have gotten tired of her. Her shows are still bringing in a lot of viewers for the Food Network and her cookbooks are always at the top of the bestseller lists. She still has a lot of fans.

I find it odd that she's not promoting her new show more. I've only seen her on Entertainment Tonight and that was a few months back.
