Hard to believe it's been ten years. And quite a ten year span, almost as significant as between 1959-1969.
On September 22, 1999:

- Bill Clinton was president.
- September 11 was just a date.
- Barack Obama was an unknown state senator.
- Chad was a nickname.
- I had a few stray grey hairs.

I was stunned by the show. When I see it now, there are a few off moments - Leo's "The president's a klutz, Mrs. Landingham" was just a little strangely delivered, Sam was a trifle too cute, Donna was just wrong. But it was one of those "wow" things, like the first "My So-Called Life" or "LA Law" or "Mork & Mindy" (hey, I was young and it was hilarious). And now when things get stuck in committee, or filibustered, or strange bedfellows unite, I understand a lot better what's going on. And never before on TV has the glory that is language been quite so appreciated, courtesy of a couple of speechwriters and a president who loves good oratory.

The Trekkie equivalents are US. I think we're called Wingnuts. And my vote for the holiday is Big Block of Cheese Day.

What about Election Day in November as another Wingnut holiday? Remember how reverently Josh said in "Election Day I" ''it's a special day"? I thnk of that every November when I go to vote and the responsibility of voting. Election Day probably was a holiday to Josh!

They said it right. This show got my daughter (now 17) to be interested in the process of governing at age 11. She's majoring in international relations next fall. So the legacy lives on.

I think Wing Nuts is the official term since I have seen/read a lot of "official" fan stuff in that name and I feel it is appropriate in all meanings of the word.

Here's an interesting quote from Alison Janney about how she and others felt when the show ended, which Ihaven't found posted yet:

Alison Janney has admitted that "The West Wing" took over her life when she appeared on the series.

According to WENN, the actress felt "adrift" after the political drama ended.

"It was relentless. We did 18-hour days - and we were so happy to be where we were. But as the years went by, we started to be less happy," she confided.

The star, who played press secretary C.J., also said that she realised how much she had missed out on when the show finished its run in 2006.

"There are so many things I missed out on in my friends' lives. When it ended, I felt kind of adrift because I slept, ate and breathed West Wing. I really didn't have too much else to define who I was."

In an ironic way (which I know has been disussed before) its like they were there characters in way we don't imagine are real.

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but in light of the recent controversy about Rahm Emanuel, I thought this was perntanent.

Bradley Whitford was asked if there were similarities between Emanuel and Josh Lyman:
