» Who Wants To Be A Superhero?
Just Tuned In

Jul 27, 2007 @ 4:40 pm
Speaking of NPCs, apparently Mindset and The Defuser have real superhero gaming chops. They both play City of Heroes (a superhero MMORPG, Massively Multi-Player Online Roleplaying Game). As a fellow CoH player and gaming addict, I'll be rooting for them. There's just something endearing about a gaming/comics geek living out the dream! This show is a little like a reality show/LARP (Live Action Role-Playing) hybrid.

Anyway, looks like Mindset, at least, is posting over at the official City of Heroes forums. Hopefully he'll share some interesting insights into the experience.

Marvel Universe RPG, which would be appropriate for Stan Lee

Since he's suing them for millions of dollars, and no longer does any work for them, I'd say, probably not. I'm surprised he doesn't have his own RPG and universe! Did anyone see his cameo in Heroes?

It was also weird that they were never asked to do anything with the clues they gathered. That just seemed unfinished.

But I guess that wasn't the point. It was to overcome Mr. Long and then come out to find the other challenges. I guess we'll never know who did it, unless it's part of the overall show story with the villianess, which would be cool.

Partheon

Oops.

Classic Bitch was close to PMS Avenger from _Mystery Men_?

Just watched this and she only applied; she wasn't a part of the Mystery Men & Woman.

but I knew she'd be in trouble when she kept going on and on about her superpowers to Mr. Long.

The scary thing is that Braid was in the CIA and had a security clearance. Good to know she's ready to blab everything she's learned and not talk about secret stuff so well. No wonder the CIA is in such disarray.

None of these characters really stand out to me in a really good way, but I'll give them time. I was just really, really disappointed that he didn't pick Homeless Man. Come on! The power to believe he's flying? He says to Stan "Thank you, giant floating head!"? That is just some beautiful cheese right there.

Feedback is such a goober, but he's obviously living the dream, so good for him. I'm still hoping that Major Victory will show up at some point. Heck, I'd even take a Fat Momma cameo.

Not a bad first episode--at least the challenge this time around was actually challenge-like, which was cool.

I laughed when they announced "Basura"--her "powers" (and character concept) are actually a lot like one of Stan Lee's more contemporary creations--Ravage 2099, who was a mutant (in the future) who armed himself with trash, and fought the greedy corporation running the world. (Not a successful character, mind you, but he existed!)

I really think Mr. Mizvah only made it through the first cut because he makes for interesting television. I think he was the least super-hero-like, though Braid really did herself no favors by seeming disinterested in the whole thing for the most part.

No joke. He was my favorite. I would love to see that guy on my TV for a while. He may have been not PC enough for this show. I think every season should have one, though.

Loved the first episode. Stan the ham and cheesy camp on wry.

I'm glad someone else thought Hyperstrike was gay. He acted like a Project Runway contestant who could do flips. I thought maybe we had 2 gay superheroes who might get to have fun (or, since it's reality TV, hate each other)...since most straight men I know would never wear tights, I have always wondered just how many superheroes are hiding away in more than just a telephone booth.

I really like Parthenon so far, for the little bit we saw of him. He delivered his horrible line with aplomb ("diamonds are a girl's best friend"), and he has great legs, a beautiful smile, and he's handsome but also a little worn, not a gym bunny. With some airbrushing, he would look a lot like some of today's superheroes. I doubt he will win (doesn't getting so much airtime early on mean the person leaves early?) but he is already a more positive representation than Golden Ring or whatever the name is of that Marvel gay superhero was.

Mr. Mitzvah is what happens when Jackie Mason reproduces.

Ms. Limelight looked so much like Lil Kim. The only good part of her having a comic would be you would never have to hear her speak.

I have to respect Bosura for managing to somehow have dignity while wearing that barely there outfit.

Braid was such cannon fodder, they didn't even really try to hide it.

I enjoyed this more than the episodes last season, maybe because they have a better mix of camp and reality.

The few seconds of him made me want to see Damon Wayans reprising "Handi Man."

Wasn't there a third? I haven't followed the forums much since I quit playing a few months ago, but I thought there was way more crossover than that (not surprisingly) and there were 3 finalists. Or maybe I'm just thinking of a semi-finalist who didn't make the cut.

Well, there's a Marvel Universe RPG, which would be appropriate for Stan Lee, but nobody actually plays it.
You mean the one being developed by Cryptic? It's not due out for quite a while yet. Nor is the DC themed one being done by Sony. (Which will suck, because it's Sony.) Unless I misunderstand which game you're talking about.

an allergic reaction to how unattractive this cast is.
Yep. As I said, this is perhaps the ugliest cast ever on a reality show.
True 'nuff, blackwing called that months ago.

But hey, people have wanted gay people on TV for equal time representation, right? Well ugly people have got to be the most under-represented group on televison (especially given the proportion). Equal time! We need a million malformed march.

Basura has a hell of a body but is kind of a butter-face. I think, however, that her personality will make her more appealing and she is this year's hottie (to whatever degree that is possible).

Hygenia is a professional extra so I'm not surprised she noticed the other extras on set during the tire challenge. Not that I think they were her work friends or something just that since she does background work, she'd notice background players.

I hate the Defuser. I think he's a dick with no patience and an inability to relate to others as a non-cop. It would be awesome if he'd have been shifted to being a bad guy (which they're doing differently this year).

As far as the villains go, I think they should be having a contest right along side the heros. Instead of ten or twelve heros, maybe have 8 heros and 4 villains and then start setting them against each other.

Marvel Universe RPG (published in 2003) - There was also the Marvel SuperHeroes RPG (published in the 80's). Really neither of them were to my taste. If I'm going to play superheroes, I'll just go ahead and use HERO/Champions.

Note, I'm talking pencil-and-paper here. You know, old school. Excuse me, I have to go tell some kids to get off of my lawn.

Feedback got a lot of airtime the first time around.

Speaking of, Whip-Snap seems to be getting the Feedback edit. With the self-flagellation after failing the first mission and taking it personally that she let Stan down. Plus she got the overly-dramatic music when Feedback went to "pick her up."

The copyright issue with Mr. Mitzvah's name would also explain the name change for Mindset.

Over to the podcast. Finally got to listen. And this one was great. Mainly because it takes place during the first season of WWTBAS? Brilliant! I'd wager that Brokensea and Tech Support were holding on to this one to release it when they did...just before Season 2 started.

Oh! OK, I remember Marvel SuperHeroes RPG from the 80s. Might have even rolled up a character once. These days my brain doesn't even stop at PnP.

Citizen Kang...thanks for the memory on Ms. Limelight. I did a few searches and came up with this. She's a sad case, isn't she? She kinda reminded me of Rachel from Real World: Back to New York to the nth degree. I'm hoping she doesn't last too long.

I never got to watch Season 1. I hope there are some DVD's or something out there
They did.

Well if Stan was kicking people out of the competition for being actors, I hope and pray she gets kicked out for being a reality TV show/talk show whore. Please, please, please! I just don't like this whiny chick.
Didn't he eliminate MonkeyGirl last season after "discovering" she was an actress?

Wait, they're other kinds of FRPGs now? (shakes fist at kids in yard)

More accurately the catalyst was her breaking character to discuss being an actress. (Vs Major Victory the actor who didn't so much point it out.)

But yes, kicking Limelight because she's "just in it for the attention" would be very very appropriate.
