I watched Doomsday over at my parents' house with me Ma. Wouldn't let meself get all upset. Left once the footie started. On the way home, what comes on the minidisk only Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here".

I'm a pile of snivelling goo here. This is worse than pms!

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

After that season finale, all I can listen to is the Geoff Smith song mentioned a couple pages back. And CRY.

Here's another selection of the classic rock station variety (Deep Purple in this case), thinking about... stuff.
Now the night wind softly blows sadness to tomorrow
Bringing tears to eyes so tired
Eyes I thought could cry no more

If the day would only come
Then you might just appear
even though you'd soon be gone
When I reached out my hand

If I could see you
If only I could see you
To see if you are laughing or crying
When the night winds softly blow

Dudes. Those are some seriously apropos suggestions. *swallows back tears* I myself have been snivelling along to Tender by Feeder, which was used in Confidential as part of a montage ("Ooo yeah, a montage!").

Ache
Can't watch you break
And shatter
Saved
New lives to make
Us better

I'm letting you know
Cleansing my soul
Been letting you know
For days

Turn over everything
Time can heal us again
I'm tender in your arms
Reaching inside of me
Bringing the love I need
The loneliness has gone

Faith
New roads to take
Together
Days
Lying awake
Remember

I'm letting you know
Cleansing my soul
Been letting you know
For days

Turn over everything
Time can heal us again
I'm tender in your arms
Reaching inside of me
Bringing the love I need
The loneliness has gone

*leaves thread in complete emotional turmoil*

How about 'Aftermath' by REM for the last episode this season? Weirdly appropriate.

The Geoff Smith one was actually inspired by rose!

He emailled a girl in another DW comm I'm in.

Thank you for digging Rose.
And yes, I did write Rose loosely based on the character from Doctor Who.
Where are you from? Are you from the UK?
Its really cool to find someone who could pick up on the song's meaning.

& i think these lyrics are apt, for rose.

It's like any other day, Rose
You won't lose a thing, and no one else will ever know
You're wondering how to go
You're worried it'll show

Hey Rose, your heart grows with every opening
In time, you'll see why this is happening

The sky smells like water and the air tastes like steel
If you were a storm, this is how you would feel
Still and dark all night
With great flashes of light

Oh, it's not just me, Rose
There's nothing I can see that you don't already know
The light is kind of rough
But I could turn it off

Hey Rose, your world grows with every opportunity
Take this while you can, kiss me

Hey Rose, your love grows with every opening
In time, you'll see why this is happening

Hey Rose, your will grows with every opportunity
Take this while you can, kiss me.

-Girlyman, Hey Rose

I picked up the new Muse CD, Black Holes and Revelations, this weekend and found what amounts to a theme song for the Doctor and Rose. Starlight. Lyrics below.

Starlight
By Muse

Far away
The ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

Starlight
I will be chasing the starlight
Until the end of my life
I don't know if it's worth it anymore

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

My life
You electrify my life
Let’s conspire to ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive

But i'll never let you go
If you promised not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

Far away
The ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

And i'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

No kidding? Are you serious? I love that song and that just totally made my day!

And I love Girlyman...I posted upthread about them and that song is just about perfect.

Edited to say, oh shit, that's so cool, he mentions on his website that he wrote the song based on Doctor Who: squee!

That was yours, SerendipityHQ? Do you know how brilliant you are? That vid made me drool in a ship-induced coma.

Does anyone know where we can get a copy of that song?

Yep, that was one of mine and thanks to you as well! I swear I'm not brilliant, it's all about the song, the video is just extraneous eye-candy. Geoff Smith, besides being incrediably nice, is just a wonderful songwriter.

Does anyone know where we can get a copy of that song?

You can get it off of iTunes and it's also on Podshow, the actual name of the song is just 'Rose' and the album is Geoff Smith and the Tonewheels.

To continue in my condition of Nine/Rose and classic rock, here's "Bargain" by The Who. I think it's a pretty nice fit. The mood reminds me strongly of POTW.

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I had
To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad

I'd pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I got
To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop ---I thought this line was excellent, especially because of Ten saying something similar in the Children in Need special

I'd pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

I sit looking 'round
I look at my face in the the mirror
I know I'm worth nothing without you
In life one and one don't make two
One and one make one
And I'm looking for that free ride to me
I'm looking for you

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I got
To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop

I'd pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

Here's a song that somehow reminds me of the Doctor (Nine in particular) - the words aren't the best fit ever, but the melancholy mood of the song certainly fits: Your Heart Is an Empty Room by DeathCab for Cutie.

Here are just some of the lines that I thought conjured up an image of Nine:
Burn it down till the embers smoke on the ground
And start new when your heart is an empty room
With walls of the deepest blue ...

And all you see is where else you could be When you're at home
And out on the street Are so many possibilities to not be alone

I have a couple: the opening lyrics to Ricky Nelson's Travelin Man
I'm a travelin man
made a lot of stops
all over the world
and in every port
I own the heart
of at least one lovely girl

could technically refer to either the Doctor or Jack

Also, the whole song doesn't work, but one part in the Who's Sally Simpson desperatly reminds me of Doomsday.
She knew from the start
deep down in her heart
she and Tommy were worlds apart
