I saw this After Ellen interview with Mandana Jones today.

Can I just say that I always enjoy her interviews? She always comes across as very reflective/insightful, regardless of what the topic is about. Not to mention comfortable in her own skin. Simone always seems like she's trying to shed the ghost of Helen Stewart, where Mandana seems to embrace the whole experience.

Just read the interview and Mandana rocks. Simone does too but Mandana seems to really get the whole issue surrounding her character. I really hope the American version is good and doesn't go for the cheap fixes. Does anyone know which Exec Producer is attached to the F/X version or if Shed Productions is having any say in the development of the show?

Just thought I'd mention that Simone Lahbib has a main role on "Wire in the Blood" this year. It's on BBCAmerica. (It's the fourth season, and 2 of 4 episodes have shown. I didn't think to mention it here earlier - I was so surprised to see her outside of "Bad Girls".)

I read the After Ellen interview with Mandana and was pleased at her interest in reprising her role should the opportunity ever come about. I just started watching the show a few months ago and was instantly drawn in by the writing. Especially, the relationship between Helen and Nikki. I still can't believe this began airing back in 1999. I've since devoured the entire 8 series (with some help from Amazon UK and some torrent sites).

But I'm wondering if anyone knows what the delay is in airing the Christmas Special? I've checked ITV's site and it still says "Coming Soon."

I've seen series 4 of Wire In The Blood. I liked Carol and the chemistry between she and Tony, but I have to say Simone did a good job.

"I could only come to it from my truth, which is: It’s love, it’s universal."

And that, my friends, is why I love Mandana Jones.

Loved the Mandana interview. Why is this woman not working?

FlyOnTheWall I'm new to the series as well. I tried to watch series 4; I just can't get into it. I keep waiting for Nikki or Helen to show up. Instead I watch series 1 through 3 over and over.

I've seen all the Simone Wire in the Blood. I think she's fantastic. She's aged obviously since BG. She looks better than ever. I'm of the mind that women in thier 40's and on are gorgeous in any event. (How odd it is to have just discovered Simon in BG and to percieve it in my mind as real time although it was 7 years ago. A bit disconcerting to see a person age "over night")
I can't compare her to Carole as this is the first I've watched the series. I think I'll Netfilix the previous series now that I've seen this one. I am a big Val Mcdermid fan; love her stuff. Espescially her dyke detective Lindsay Gordon series.

poedgie, series 4 was a bit flat for me as well, but hang in there. It picked up in the following series. In fact, I have to say I didn't care much for Yvonne at first, but she really grew on me.

I agree with you about Simone. I like how she's aged. I read an interview with her where she mentioned doing WITB a year or so after she gave birth. She still had some of her baby weight and it shows. And I found her even more attractive.

I was not familiar with Val McDermid and only became aware of WITB because of Simone. But I love the show.

Ah, Yvonne got me from the start when she told Shell "I don't do scared" loved that line.
I also like how she stood up for Shaz (who was not her favorite by any means, nor mine for that matter) and beat the shit out of Al.

Some of my favorite moments of BG involve the interaction between Yvonne and Nikki in "The Chains of Freedom" Like this gem:

Yvonne: As far as helping me darling, You just haven't got the tackle.
Nikki: You wanna bet?

It makes me wonder if Nikki had "Tackle" in her coat pocket in "Oh what a Night"

I know that Yvonne has a pretty gruesome death. I'm just not ready to watch that yet.

Makes me wanna go back and start all over again.

Too bad Helen and Nikki's "deleted scene" from "Oh What A Night" didn't make it into the episode. I think I went temporarily cross-eyed from re-watching it so much!

Overall, there are some definite highs (series 1 - 3) and lows (Di's storyline ... too long) with this show, but none low enough to make me give up.

After reading Mandana's interview, I wonder what kind of story line or development would be irresistible enough to make her to want to reprise her role. I'd be even more curious if Simone would be interested at all.

Until I read this, it hadn't occurred to me that Mandana was talking about playing Nikki again on Bad Girls, the show. I kind of envisioned some tv movie or something like that, you know, separate from Larkhall. But suddenly I started imagining Nikki coming back as some sort of civilian from a lobbying group which has oversight on conditions at prisons. Something along those lines (this way, you don't even need Helen to be a character). But it became impossible for me to envision how she would interact with the characters currently on the show. I mean, the only ones she still knows are the Julies and Sylvia. Everyone else doesn't know Nikki from Adam. So what would Nikki be like in this new role, with hardly anyone having any preconceived notions about her? Don't have any answers, just strange to even be contemplating it. Because it's like, there really isn't a place where Nikki could naturally or easily fit it with the storyline as it is today.

*cough* My guess would be no. Though stranger things have happened, I suppose.

I liked the Helen and Nikki story arc and was fine with where it ended. At this point in the series, I would also find it hard to imagine where Nikki would fit in. Although, your hypothetical of her as a sort of advocate would be interesting, abzug.

Perhaps because I'm new to the series and have watched all 8 series over the course of months, and not years like folks in the UK and elsewhere, that it would seem too soon to come back. For me, it's like watching a good movie then hearing there's going to be a sequel and dreading that it might somehow ruin the image of the first one in my mind. YMMV.

I would actually like to see Mandana in other productions and to see more of her acting range.

Just a quick post: Read today in the newspaper that Bad Girls had officially been cancelled, which-let's be honest- didn't really come as a big surprise. It has lost nearly 4 million viewers. Don't know if this is old news, but it was the first I'd heard about it so I thought I'd share. Haven't checked the ITV website to see what's happening with the xmas special yet and whether they're still going ahead with it.
