» Surface: Evil Snorkels in the Mist

"FATHOM" -- Ever wonder what life would be like if a new form of sea life began to appear in locales all over the earth? In this expansive drama, those who are about to find out include some naval officers in the South Antarctic Sea, a family in San Diego, scientists from the Oceanographic Institute in Monterey, and fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico. The seemingly innocent creatures they find are beautiful and kids may even want to play with them -- but is there something more to them? One thing's for sure - they're full of surprises as viewers can embark on this unfathomable journey to discover what might be lurking in the sea. Lake Bell ("Boston Legal") stars as Daughtery Carstarphen, along with Jay R. Ferguson ("Judging Amy") as Richard Owen, Rade Serbedzija ("Snatch") as Dr. Aleksander Cirko, and Carter Jenkins ("CSI: NY") as Miles. "Fathom" is from NBC Universal Television Studio and was created by Josh and Jonas Pate ("Dragnet"), who also serve as executive producers.

Hmmm, there are like 2 or 3 Sci-Fi series coming, but this one seems promising. I like Rade Serbedzija and I guess I can deal with Carter Jenkins. Hope this one survives the cancellation.

Any good thoughts?

Heh, when I first saw this thread I had to read it a few times to get that it wasn't saying, "Evil Snorks in the Mist". Because the idea of an evil All-Star would be kind of cool.

Also, disappointed, in a way, that this doesn't seem to be a comic-to-TV job, since there's a relatively new comic book (a few years, now) of the same name. I have no idea what it's about, but I my interest always perks a bit if I can watch a comic book adaptation train wreck in the making.

Still, Rade Serbedzija... man, I loved The Saint and Mission Impossible II, so I guess if I can stomach him in stuff that everyone else considers crap, I can give this a chance.

I like underwater stuff. I'll watch even though I don't know anything about comics.

a family in San Diego
Oooh! Maybe that's me! Wait... nope.

Makes me think of the Full Circle episode of Doctor Who. "We can not return to Taradon, because we have never been there!!!" That would make an awesome sweeps reveal, heh.

When I first heard of this series, I thought it was gonna be a remake of that awful Raquel Welch spy movie from the sixties.

Good catch on the Raquel Welch movie. I'd forgotten that one. If Lake Bell (formerly Boston Legal's Sally Heep, Slut for the Defense) is in this one, plunging cleavage is inevitable.

Has anyone heard anything concrete review-wise on this show? I'm sure there has to be some word from the upfronts.

There's "G vs. E" and "Battlestar Gallactica" on the Pates' resumes. I'd take a look at it based on that.

Looks like crap to me. Lake Bell is not a good sign. Nor is NBC, which has of late been the networks' dumping ground for crappy shows.

That's kind of where I am with it too. I'm not real familiar with most of the youth-heavy cast. But I'm hoping the Pate brothers put a little snap in their hatbrims.

Don't know if this is good or bad but Fathom will be shot in Wilmington, N.C.

I guess people kept thinking Raquel Welch was in this show. Fathom is now Surface.
NBC's new 2005 fall drama series "Fathom" has been renamed "Surface." From NBC Universal Television Studio, "Surface" will debut on the NBC network on Mondays from 8 to 9 PM EST this September.

I guess it only makes sense, since it doesn't sound like much of the show will actually be set underwater.

I might have checked out Fathom, but I'll never, ever watch surface. Fathom's a much better name.
