I will not miss Paige's incessant mugging for the camera one bit. I'm so glad she's leaving.

The english dude cracked me up, he gave Hildi a hard time about EVERYTHING, and it seemed to really rattle her bones!! Loved it. The room ended up looking okay, thanks to the homeowner, not Hildi.

Faber's accent really did come on full force, and even his personality changed in Scottland. Very cute.

Oh no, get ready,...

There are three tapes.

I don't think imaginary tapes, or mock strip teases are what caused Paige's firing. They also let Joe Farrell go from TSF.

Here's a link to a post on the TLC board from a poster who visited a filming site today, and was told by Christi, Joe is filming his last episodes in Florida this week.

ETA.....the posts on the TLC board about Joe have been removed by the moderators. However, the original poster has posted the same info again. I doubt if it will stay there very long before its censored again.

TS is so tired, why are they even trying to flog the beast? I liked Paige and I pray that the sex tape thing is untrue. But Joe! A nicer human being does not exist on TV. His rapport with kids, etc. I just don't get that decision. Still, I haven't been able to watch either show in the last year, so I guess it doesn't much matter.

jerseydevil, it is so...someone on the TS BB posted that they saw Christi at a shoot this week and she said Joe's taping his final shows right now...

So that's it then. I'm done with all of them. Not even Carter, Faber or Doug could make me watch again. It's one thing to lose the host of a show where all the participants are adults and know the format and what is expected of them. A show with multiple kids of various ages running around who may or may not know kind of needs an overall organizing presence, and someone to interact with the kids, who really aren't able to contribute much to the actual work of the room. Giant dumbasses, those Banyan folks. Just cancel them now, and let Carter and Faber find other shows where I can watch their handsome goodness. Bah.

That's funny you should mention his rapport with kids, I get a "Chester The Child Molester" feeling from him. Like the wicked Uncle Ernie character in the rock muscial Tommy.

I actually have always liked Paige and thought that she was the one member of the cast that always seemed to genuinely care about whether the HO's liked their rooms. But the last few episodes that I've actually watched, she just seemed tired and not into it anymore, and I can completely understand why. I would say her leaving is the show's last gasp.

The horse? It is dead. Stop beating it, TLC.

It's bad enough that Paige has been removed from TS, but if Joe is really gone from TSF, I can't think of a reason to keep supporting that show either because it's obvious the producers are planning on tinkering around with the format as well. The main things I like about TSF is that it's true to the original concept of TS and the interaction between Joe, the cast and families is fun to watch. If they're ditching Joe, it must mean they're going to concentrate more on the "drama" of the shows and less on the interactions. If so, they've lost me as a viewer because I'm getting sick of all the fake drama on regular TS.

The producers need to reevaluate what's really the problem with their shows. If they actually read the boards, they'd know that most people who tune in do so because they want practical tips on home improvements, not homeowners screaming and crying over remodels they don't like. In a Fix and Clean Sweep are popular without half the phoney drama TS tries to generate. If it were simply a matter of the designer doing an otherwise good design that just doesn't fit with the tastes of the HO, that's one thing, but to deliberately do a freaky or far-out design in the hopes of generating a negative response from the HO is going too far. Crap like the black and white episode is what has viewers tuning out, not Paige or Joe.

I used to plan my Saturday nights around "Trading Spaces." Last season, I would wait and just watch the re-run on Sunday afternoon. Lately, I've just been watching "TS:Family." I'll sit through Barry just to see Joe. No Joe, I'm gonna go.
It's been real, Banyan. See ya.

I hate the Doug and Hildi episodes with a hate that knows no bounds. Hildi is guaranteed to do some pointlessly whacky thing just for the effect, and Doug is rude and arrogant to the homeowners.

Paige seems to worship both of them. I think she is sorta mean to Kia, and condescending to Frank.

So, I am looking forward to the new format, and I hope that this means the homeowners will be more in control - with rooms that are functional, as well as pretty.

Washington Post article - registration required...

In 'Spaces' Makeover, It's Curtains for Paige: "To think of all the many around-the-house tasks, circa 2002, that we managed to put off, thanks largely to the irresistible, superhuman chipperness of Paige Davis. (Used to be, oh, look, "Trading Spaces" is on. No, not just on -- a "Trading Spaces" marathon. Put down the car keys, blow off Home Depot and kiss an entire Sunday goodbye.)"

Empty Spaces: TLC's Chief Quits as Discovery Cuts Staff: "Paige Davis, dumped as host of TLC's signature series "Trading Spaces" this week, can take comfort in knowing that the network's general manager is going down with her."

Thanks for the links, LizDC.

I'm glad to finally see some numbers in just how bad the ratings have dropped. I'm also not surprised to hear that the ratings for other TLC shows have fallen as well.

Alas, we knew it couldn't last forever. I shall miss Faber, though. :o( That's the only sad part for me.
