» Nitpicking Lost: Corpses Smell Bad

Last night's flashback showed that when Locke was banging on the hatch door, Desmond was somehow comforted to know that there was someone out there.

Yeah about that, Desmond found out that somebody was out there when Locke was crying and yelling and banging on the hatch, but he didnt even notice when Locke and Boone were trying to use their 'trebuchet' to smash open the glass? Im sure the trebuchet made a lot more noise than Locke did....

All right, maybe these are obvious complaints, but here we go: If Henry was, in fact, the leader of the Others (and lots of people seem to believe that he is), why was he prancing around the forest, unprotected? Some have speculated that he "allowed" himself to get netted, but that makes no sense to me. He was tortured, shot with an arrow, and had a loaded gun pointed at him more than once. Given the fact that the castaways have already killed several of "his people," shouldn't the leader of the operation be more protected?

Not to mention Saeed almost beat him to death.

I think the producers were tired of people complaining about the scene in the ep where Boone died, and this was their (lame) attempt to explain it away. Like much of the second 1/2 of S2, a failure that doesn't make sense.

Back to the bitterness thread...

That's easy: so TPTB could show how frickin' clever they think they. They need to stop writing their show based on "The Big Book of Hollywood Cliches"; I called the "The Usual Suspects" rip-off as soon as Henry was introduced. What a bunch of ass-hats.

My newest nitpick? I hate sloppy shit like this.

Desmond's photo from Episode 3 Orientation

Desmond's photo from the Finale

I understand that they didn't have an actress cast at the time so it's going to be a different woman in the photo, and I'm even willing to let go that the angle of her head is completely different, but at the very least get the clothing right. I mean, how do go from a white collared jacket over a black t-shirt to a black V-neck blouse with a white shirt underneath?

Just sloppy, as they clearly just photoshoped her in there right over the original without regard to at least trying to make them look similar.

Oh and why the hell would Desmond even leave that beloved photo behind when he ran out in "Orientation"? He had time to grab a damn stuffed rabbit gods sake...
I'm willing to overlook this as long as NuPenny turns out to be a good actress. The same thing happened on Alias; they showed us pics of Syd's mom who looked nothing like Lena Olin, and it wasn't LO in the S1 finale. However, LO rocked the role, so it was ok. As long as we end up with a LO and not a Melissa George, I'll be happy.

Like I said, the fact that it's a different actress is understandable and dosn't bother me, it's just the inexplicable change of clothing that irks me.

Of course, I'd be happier if NuPenny wasn't around to begin with...

Kenny1, Thanks for the photo links. Seriously, why couldnt they just photoshop her face on the other woman? Or have Penny wear white?

Since when did they get a supply of hair dye on the island? :P
As you'll notice in these screen caps

O o o! I can fanwank that! If your hair is constantly exposed to the sun, the darker portions will start to fade out. So dark hair with red highlights gets redder, and dark hair with blonde highlights get blonder.

According to the [stooooopid] Blast Door Map, the Cerebus Barrier keeps the Others from the Tailies section of the Island (which is why FauxHenry needed to be captured and why Zeke didn't just blast the Tailies into oblivion). How then was Ethan (whom we know was one of Zeke and FH's Others) able to get to the Tailies section? He clearly did so when he murdered Sceeve.

Cerebus Barrier? What are you talking about? You cannot nitpick something based on a theory.

When metal things started to fly around, due to magnetism presumably, they didn't all start at the same time. I can maybe understand that they didn't all go in the same direction, but why not at the same time?

And in that big pile of tubes, ignoring the fact that no vacuum seemed to be involved, wouldn't they all be piled around the end of the tube, eventually blocking it? Better to shoot them off a cliff into the ocean if they were just being discarded.

How was Sayid supposed to sail near the Others camp and not be seen? The Losters spotted the boat quickly, and they aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

A longstanding nit -- entry of the numbers presumes that you are separating them by something - punctuation, space? There are no single keys for 15, 16 etc. The typing never seems to match the screen display -- not to mention Walt's warp speed typing.

How did someone as stupid as Jack make it through med school? Sorry, maybe I should switch to the bitterness thread.

I thought it was shot out, not vacuumed up. If that's the case, then the angle of repose probably answers the second part of your nit.

I don't think that they were coming out and shooting up -- I seem to recall it as facing down. And unless it was shooting them up, they would eventually bunch up around the exit. There were way too many tubes and too many mounds for the angle of repose to be the answer. They appeared more like they had been dumped there all at once (which is probably the actual case.)

I think you're right that the positioning of the mounds of tubes argues against angle of repose as an answer -- one of the first things I noticed was that there are mounds farther from the tube which are higher than the mound closest to it, which suggests that some direct action was taken to shift them into piles away from the tube, perhaps because they would end up blocking it. Or else the exit tube is moving somehow, which seems unlikely.

But [Walt] still types too perfectly for a 10-year-old.

I have no problem with this. First of all, we know Walt is very smart. Second of all, I know plenty of kids (my younger brother & his friends) who, at the ripe old age of 10, could type as well and as fast as an adult thanks to the glories of myspace and internet mb's like this one. Practice makes perfect and IM-ing and txt-ing really hone the skillz.
