A lot of people were talking about the music in the pilot, so I thought we could use this topic.

It's always nice to hear Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" on TV (its usage here wasn't quite as cool as it was in The Stand, though).

Dandy Warhols' "We Used to Be Friends" for the credits? Nice. Though I agree it might be a little incongruous with the proposed tone of the series. Still, it's such a fun song. It's also popped up on The O.C. and Wonderfalls.

What was that music playing during the flashback when Veronica was druged? I'm pretty sure I also heared it in "Lost in Translation".

The music is "Girls," by Death in Vegas. It was in Lost in Translation, and is on the soundtrack.

Who's the British (cockney?) dude doing a rap-type ting? I just heard him doing a different tune on an alternative station last night but they didn't identify him.

Hey y'all, I'm getting there on the recap. Does anyone know what song was playing in the flashback to Veronica's surprise party, the one that Duncan said was their song? Thanks!

The British rapper was The Streets. He has an actual name, but I forget it.

The Streets is actually one guy named Mike Skinner. The song was "Weak Become Heros" on his debut album Original Pirate Material. Very good stuff.

Duncan and Veronica's song was Just Another by Pete Yorn

Judging from the pilot, I'm looking forward to the music choices for this show.

My brother listens to Mike Skinner all the time, very good artist.

I agree with RubyRose, the show has a great taste of music.

I don't know. Eclectic maybe, but not good. I found myself going, "what the hell kinda song is that"? I don't really like the trendy pop/rock canon teen shows tend to use all the time. Like, the only song I liked from the pilot was "Girls" but the rest was too Fresh New Sound for me.

Many of the songs were from the 1970s and 1980s. I'm puzzled.

Miriam Makeba must be 70, and Pata Pata was first recorded in the '50s and became a hit in the U.S. in the late '60s. If it still sounds Fresh New Sound, that's a testiment to its staying power, not its trendiness!
