Does anyone have a copy of the Shatner show to spare?

The Shatner show is on tonight again.

Oh, I just loved this. Although, the first hour was the science, and the second hour was mostly "why the other Trek spin offs weren't as good as the original, although TNG almost got it right, then mucked it up." (Personally, though, I adored TNG.)

Was there ever a stereotyped actor who's had as much fun playing off his own cliche's? Good for Bill Shatner; he deserves all the accolades he gets.

The part ragging on the last three series was so not called for. They just left the premise of the show and went on the soapbox about "abandoning Roddenberry's vision." I had just been watching The Soup, and they made a DS9 dig, then Shatner did it. Made me sad. That and Walter Koenig being a bit of a creepy dick was bad.

I still loved the first 3/4 though. And the dirty jokes were good: Data and his big hard drive and Riker playing with his instrument.

Gotta love the Shat-man.

I dont remember where or when I read this (I wanna say the TV Guide, but not sure), but a fan of Trek once said that the only good episode of Trek that the Shat was ever in was that episode of DS9 where they superimpose episode (Trials and Tribblelations). I just thought I'd throw that in since people are dissing DS9.

rose89, what was the dig that The Soup made against DS9?

In the Cybersmack section they were showing this thing where some fans made new episodes of TOS, and after it was over he said," It's still better than Deep Space Nine."

Whatever. That guy is such a tool and doesn't convince me that he knows anything about anything.

I "heart" William Shatner.

And seriously that Soup guy, needs to understand that "DS9" was the ONLY good Trek show of the 90's.

Farouk El-Baz, namesake of one of the Enterprise D's shuttlepod fleet, and a team of researchers have determined the shape of a big honkin' crater in the Sahara desert. He was interviewed on "The World" Thursday night.

The official website notes this in their latest "Science Roundup."

A friend was at a dinner with George Takei earlier this week. I just had to share.

It was pretty cool. There were like 15 of us at this dinner, and I was right next to him for part of the time.

The dinner was sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign. I’m sure you heard that George finally came out publicly as a gay man last summer (after 18 years of living with his partner) - as if we didn’t all know the first time we saw “the naked time.” So he was in town telling his life story, from WWII internment camp to hollywood star to gay celebrity, and encouraging people of all sorts who are persecuted for being “different” to find solidarity with each other and fight intolerance. Total Gene-Roddenberry-vision-of–the-future stuff. His ultimate point was to encourage political opposition to the anti-gay marriage amendment at the legislature. I guess later he spoke to a crowd at the U of M, but we didn’t go to that.

He also sent a pic of George and his law professor doing the Vulcan hand salute. To which he added, "Doesn’t really make sense though, Sulu was human..."

So jealous!

My mom just told me something rather odd. She was walking by this small home theater place that has a bunch of movie and TV cardboard cutouts in the window, and guess who was one of the Trek ones. Gowron. I didn't even know they made cardboard Gowrons. She recognized it because she noticed one of them was giving crazy eyes and took a closer look.

Yeah, I remember when they sold them. Maybe Gowron was the default alien in the set in TNG days.

How cool. The actor who plays Gowron will be in my area this summer at a con. Perhaps someone will bring one out for an autograph.

Bump.

The aforementioned con (Convergence 2006) went well - as a local general/media con, it was as Trek as it was going to ever get with Robert O'Reilly & J.G. Hertzler guests of honor. The local Klingon groups were out in full force, as was some guy handing out Tribbles. This con has a tradition of themed parties, and one highlight was a well done recreation of a TOS Enterprise rec room, and its mirror universe equivalent.
