I'm ashamed to admit that I am looking forward to this show because of the potential of really fit, good looking men

hangs head in shame

Ok, on another site there is a picture of the contests. One of them is Dan from Boy Meets Boy, Lost, and recently a stripper on Gilmore Girls. Good god he's a famewhore.

I'm never starting another thread. It's Next Action Star, not hero

I don't see another thread for this anywhere. Guess TPTB will change the title for this one.

Don't be ashamed, this looks absolutely awesome. Famewhores getting flameballed? I am so there. And the possibility that they might get punched, be forced to jump off buildings and have much more other violence inflicted on them? Doesn't suck. Doesn't suck at all.

Good Christ, don't reality shows check to see if you've already been on a reality show (or 2!) before they let you be on another one? I hated Dan on Lost, I hated him on Boy Meets Boy (?? I thought it was Playing It Straight?) and I'll hate him on this too.

I'm looking forward to the show. I was hoping someone would start a thread, thanks Dougintx. I would have made the same hero/star mistake.

I can't believe that there are not enough people in the world/ who apply to these things that we have to have repeat contestants.

Quick question. CTV is airing the first hour of this tonight and the second hour tomorrow night. In the states is it a two hour showing tomorrow night?

I was looking at the NBC preview clips here, without sound as I'm at work. It looks to me as if they have 4 or 5 judges and that the way they select the women is going to make me upset.

The swimming pool at the house looks neat.

Don't be ashamed, Doug. That's pretty much exactly the same reason I considered tuning in. It does look pretty good though. The previews for The Apprentice got me interested because of the clip of Katrina telling Omarosa to shut up. This one is similiar with the guy saying someone needs their ass kicked or something like that.

But DAN is back? On another show? Good grief. Well, I kinda look forward to seeing him. What can I say? He has a nice ass.

I'm surprised that this show isn't going to be filled with lots of people that we've already seen on other reality shows. Isn't that why 99.999999% of all reality show contestants go on reality shows - because they think it's their big Hollywood break? Where's Susan Hawk? Where's Evan Marriott?

That said, this show sounds like little more than a glorified, sexed-up Fear Factor, only with higher stakes. Well, sort of. I imagine that winner will probably be cast in some sort of co-starring role in a low budget, made-for-TV movie where he'll get about 20 minutes worth of screen time, maybe a stunt or two, and then we'll never hear from him (or her), or his/her career again.

But I guess I'll watch it - nothing better to do.

I'm not sure about this show. But I'll give it a try.

Here's an informative article/review of the show in the New York Times. Registration required, but free. Linked a follows:

Arnold's Busy; Can Anyone Here Flex and Shoot?

Money quotes:

On "Next Action Star," a new talent series that begins tonight on NBC, a curious subset of fame-seekers — those with a taste for stunts, a hawkish nature and enough Hollywood gravitas to deliver "Make my day"-style epigrams — can be seen furrowing their brows and firing their steepled fingers as they try to win a career playing cops and commandos.

So they're not just looking for fame-whores. But fame-whores with skills.

Though Mr. [Producer Joel] Silver doesn't say it, bankable action stars are an endangered species, with former box-office champs having been seduced by state government or directing. He may actually need a new star.

Heh.

Just as on "American Idol," Mr. Silver's casting call went nationwide and drew a big response. On tonight's episode, mobs of hopefuls in various cities mug for the camera, announcing themselves as foregone winners; this scene of group waiting and posturing has become a set piece on "Idol"-format star searches. For some contestants it's their only screen time.

Part of tonight's episode will consist of looking at the auditions. Should provide some laughs.

The actors who get attention tonight therefore are more Navy Seal than Broadway. Several talk of experience with guns. (One woman boasts, "I have hunted or stalked every animal in the Southern region.")

Weird. I have a vision of Omarossa frome the Apprentice with a rifle. Scary.

Spoilers?

According to EW, it's not only Dan from Boy Meets Boy who makes his way from another reality show. Another famewhore comes in the form of Larissa from Average Joe 2!! I hated that fake-ass bitch in AJ2, and I'm glad I can get another chance to hate her here, too. It doesn't say if she gets past the audition stage, though, which is unfortunate because I'd love to see the crap kicked out of her

Oh, and EW gave the casting special an F. Too many famewhores, apparently, and the judges are "too mean." C'mon now, they can't be as bad as Lorenzo Lamas (who I just happened to see on Family Feud today. He was on the same team as Evan Marriott...).

Well that sucked. Could this show try any harder to copy American Idol? The blonde bitchy judge was totally stealing a page from Simon Cowell's playbook when she went out into the waiting area to chastise the auditioners.

What a bad, bad movie these people are going to make.

See, I actually didn’t think that was too bad. Dalton gave it an F, but it was watchable. Sure it ripped off AI’s format, but I didn’t care. I was confused by the number of judges, but they didn’t seem that mean to me. Tough and snarky, yes, but we’ve seen worse.

I liked the black woman, Austere (or something) and I cringed when famewhore Dan made it. Nooooo! But I’m glad Average Joe Larissa didn’t though. Hee.

I may stick around for this.

I'm thinking the auditions will be the least interesting part of the show - it's like my 7th grade Drama class, and the real interesting material will be seen in the screen tests in Hollywood so I will stick it out until after them.

That girl Jeanne was incredibly beautiful. Hope to see more of her.

I actually liked the casting show. I think that this is more interesting than many of the other shows because the fame whores are all after the prize that they most want: to be in a movie.

Plus, I'm kind of interested in the behind the scenes stunt stuff.

It was alright. I've never heard of this Dan guy. But I was happy to see Larissa not make it. Heh heh! She's horrid. I think the behind-the-scenes stuff will make it kind of interesting. The bad line readings were enjoyable but some of the ones they advanced were laughable. Esp. that guy that said "they won't see a better actor" or some such nonsense. Whatever. He's as run-of-the-mill as they come. Bland. I hope Joel Silver has lots of comments and doesn't hold back. And the movie will suck. Sure of it.
