Sure, cuttlefish. The more I think about how much he was a scientist seeking the secrets of "love and caring," the more I think these were genetically altered "cuddlefish."

Thought about why the Monarch hates Rusty...what if Monarch was actually Rusty's twin? Think about it...this season, we've established that Jonas was a real asshole. Dumping a twin off somewhere and manipulating his life so we could become a super-villain doesn't seem so far-fetched, especially if Jonas knew Rusty would be a burnout case in his adult life (even without the apparently untimely death), and he figured an even lamer adversary would be needed. And if you throw in Jonas not knowing about a third kid getting absorbed (wee JJ, channeling John Constantine), it's even funnier. The only question would be if Monarch knows about it.

A quick motivator. I'm also working on one from the last episode.

The more I think about it, the more I think the pay-off to why Monarch hates Rusty will be something anti-climatic, as far as P&H going back to the earlier "Monarch arches Rusty because he can't arch Jonas" comment from the "Dean needs surgery on his privates" episode in season one.

Monarch probably tried to kill Rusty in order to trigger a blood feud with Jonas Sr (hence the explosion that maimed Underbeit instead) but it backfired and Jonas Sr. died without even knowing Monarch even existed. So he initiated a full-time feud with Rusty as his Jonas surrogate only to have his hatred turn real as he realized what a pathetic failure Rusty was.

Maybe even toss in the visual gag that the plane Monarch's family was in when it crashed and killed his parents as far as why Monarch wanted to be a villain/hate Jonas professionally, as far as blaming him for his plane malfunctioning and killing his parents....

Awww, and they'd have all those arms for cuddling too! Someone could make a fortune off of toy plush cuddlefish.

The Monarch just wishes he'd been old enough to hate Jonas Sr. not that he's settled for Rusty. The Monarch's hatred seems to be totally genuine and we all know how much of dick Doctor Venture can be. Even if it turns out to just be something stupid it'll still most likely be Rusty the one how pissed him off.

JesseBaker...that actually makes more sense than my idea. But I still like my stuff, especially when Monarch threw in a reference to Romulus and Remus on Sunday.

Thought about why the Monarch hates Rusty...what if Monarch was actually Rusty's twin?

I've been thinking about this theory all week since viewing the episode but didn't post it because I figured there had to be some logical reason why this couldn't be, so waited to mull on it while out on the road this week. I came here to post it and let others shoot it down and find someone else had speculated on this as well. If this is true, I don't think that Jonas dumping off the Monarch was intended to provide Rusty an arch,(but easily could have been) but instead could have been some kind of survival experiment with Rusty as the "control" subject to compare how a "wild child" would turn out as opposed to a person raised in civilization. I don't think Jonas knew Rusty would be a burnout when conducting this experiment. I don't believe The Monarch suspects anything about his relationship to Rusty, though. There could be other reasons Jonas abandoned The Monarch, such as after Rusty's mom died, Jonas didn't want to be stuck raising another kid, or the Monarch might be Rusty's clone, that after getting to a certain age, couldn't easily be explained away, so he got rid of it by dumping him off. These are just random thoughts without any evidence to back them up. It could just as well be that things are exactly as we are seeing them on the show now.

The tiny promo for this weeks episode looks like it figures on the old Team Venture. Maybe we'll finaly get to see what happened to Jonas?

There already is a Monarch/Jonas Venture connection as far as the fact that Monarch's parents crashed in a jet Jonas's company manufactured.

That said, if P&H DO insist on retconning the Monarch and Rusty as siblings, I offer the following scenerio:

Rusty is a bastard spawn, the result of an affair that Jonas had with Monarch's mom. The pregnancy was hushed up and Jonas was given custody of the child, presumably in exchange for him agreeing to end the affair. That's why we have no clue as to who Rusty's mom is, since she was married to another man and pretty much rejected Rusty the second he popped out of her.

The affair wrecked the Monarch's parents marriage, until the two got back together and went on a vacation with their existing son Malcom; unfortunately the plane crashed and only Malcom survived. Growing up, he ultimately found out about his half-brother and blames Rusty for ruining his parents' marriage and causing their deaths, via setting into motion their being on the plane when it crashed....

I found this while trolling the web trying to get a fix for my Venture Jones.

Is this Dermot's mother?

Is this Dermot's half brother?
http://bp2.blogger.com/_XuJIbx1rx7Y/SIP8kk...QuizKid2_02.jpg

They are character designs from "Invisible Hand of Fate" (Lots of great stuff on this page including a drawing of OSI's S.H.E.I.L.D. like Heli-Carrier.)

I believe the profiles of the faces match the silhouette of Demott's mom from the end of "The Buddy System."

Also check out the clothing selection. Old army jacket that matches Dermot's.

This is my total fan wank on Dermot and his origins:

I believe Billy met Dermot's mother on the underground quiz boy circuit. During one hot night of passionate quiz boy love Dermott was conceived. Billy was then mind wiped by OSI so he has no recollection of losing his virginity.

All children in the Ventureverse are victims of unintentional abuse by seemingly oblivious or well meaning parents. Dermott may talk tough but he is a very frightened boy. Raised by his mother traveling on the dangerous and depraved underground quizboy circuit Dermot was exposed to many traumas just like Rusty, Johnny Quest, Trianna and the Venture Brothers. Dermot may have even been sexually molested thus his fear of being probed and wanting to protect his "cornhole."

Dean and Demott may in the future find common ground in sharing their traumatic childhood experiences with each other or worse Trianna and Dermot may find common ground by doing the same.

InActionMan (and others), I respect your carefully thought-out and researched theories/wanks about Dermott and Billy, but I have to say that I hope it's not true. I hope that Dermott turns out to be Brock's son simply because I'm more interested in seeing Brock handle real fatherhood (rather than the pseudo-motherhood he's got going with Hank and Dean) with a real ass of a kid (again, in comparison to the sweetness and pliability of Hank and Dean) than I am in seeing Billy as a dad. The amount of backstory we got on him this season was exactly enough, and I kind of don't want to see him in center stage anymore. He and Pete have a real Rosencrantz & Guildenstern vibe about them when they are side players in the Ventures' larger drama. I'd like them to stay there. YMMV, of course.

I just realized a few hours ago at another possible candidate to be Dermott's father: Sgt. Hatred.

The blonde hair, the "toughness," the voice, the old army jacket, his brief attendance at the camp. It all fits, with the proverbial monkey wrench of the theory being Hatred's affinity for little boys. Perhaps the Baby Mama had tiny feet?

From the start, I have been hoping that Dermott doesn't turn out to be Brock's son, but I wasn't exactly sure why. After reading this, I realized that it is because I don't want to see the relationship Brock has with the boys changed in any way, and I think it would. Even though I can see the story potential inherent in the contrast between the boys and Dermott, I don't want them to take that path. Part of that might be because Dermott is so very, very unappealing.

Given the show's habit for black humor, it would be ironic if Brock only found out about Dermott after the character was killed off/horribly maimed because he pissed off Brock and Brock's payback scheme backfired horribly on Dermott?

That said, given what InactionMan said about the kids on the show having fucked up childhoods, it's more likely that Brock would redouble his devotion to Hank and Dean than lessen it, if he found out Dermott was his kid.

I've suspected Monarch and Rusty were blood relatives since this scene at Cremation Creek:

http://mantiseye.com/img/caps/25/scr12.jpg

The noses, the lines in their faces, the eyes and the facial hair seem too similar for coincidence.

Finding out that Monarch hates Rusty because he's jealous of Rusty's favored son status in Jonas' eyes would fit fine in my world.

Plus... My twisted sense of humor finds it funny to think "The Venture Bros." may also refer to those two (oh-yeah-and-JJ-too) alongside Hank and Dean.
