» Martin: The True Inventor of Whazzup!

Just thought I'd put old Marty-Mart back on the front page. Today I saw an episode where Shenehneh picks a fight with Gina and Pam in the hallway. When Pam tries to flex on her, Nehneh tells her she will "scatter her crooked teeth all up and down this hallway."

I also saw an epi the other day in which Pam calls Martin "Sidney Shortier." After ten years, this show is just as funny as it was on day one. The only other comedian who has ever given Martin a run for his money in a television show is Dave Chapelle. I just started watching repeats of his show on comedy central, and it had me laughing and crying at the same time just like Martin did. Thank-you Dave! We've been waiting so long for someone to REALLY bring the comedy again!

Hi all,
I'm new around here but I had to join in on the Martin train. :) I think my favorite episode was the one when Gina had a date with David Allen Greer. They are at a resturant and Martin comes in and starts singing " I will always love You" Ginnnna. heh , Cracks me up everytime I happen to hear that song.

So happy I just discoverd the Martin thread! Oh man...so many memories, so many funny lines. Anybody remember the character who worked at a gas station I think, I cannot remember his name for the life of me. But he used to this song that went "Don't you know no good, don't you know no good."

I still have a couple episodes on tape from way back when. And they still stand the test of time. I have one where they hold a talent show to raise money for AIDS research. Sheneneh and Kilolo come out and do the stupidest routine.

One of my all-time favorites is when Martin goes to his high school graduation. "Pretty Ricky what dey call him." Classic. Then Gina shows up all jacked up. Too funny.

My other favorite has to be the Halloween episode when they tell ghost stories and someone uses the word banshee and Cole explains it means "an old banjo."

I believe that was Elroy.

Hey, does anyone remember King Beef from what seemed to only be the first season? He was always in the movies that the guys loved. "But fiiiiirst...I must DANCE!" "Go King Beef! Go King Beef!"

YES! I posted about this upthread. I love that episode. That song gets stuck in my head for a day or two everytime.

Just want everyone to know that thanks to this thread, when I happened to catch Jodeci's "Forever My Lady" on the radio this morning I automatically sang "For-ever Shenehneh" at the chorus. Then I laughed my ass off, all alone, in my car.

Just had to thank you guys for that. Sometimes, this thread puts a much needed smile on my face.

Finally got TiVo and ask it to get 'Martin' and it diligently waits til it runs at 1:00am in UPN. The bad part is that the titles and the episodes don't ever match! But whoa... all that Martin goodness is back!

Just saw the episode where Martin makes a talent show for a good cause... and Shenehneh and KeyLoLo get to rap on old-fashioned TLC/Salt-n-pepa style y'all!!

'Go nehneh, Go LoLo'... had me losing my shit. again.

Plus Jerome actually goes on a date with Pam! I love Tichina arnold so much, it is a shame she hasn't been seen since she was on that Martin's movie where he dresses as the grandma.

Cole says he wanted to date Pam... did that ever happened? I don't remember.

Heh, Jerome: "I say Jerome is in the Ha-a-a-a-a-a---watch yer mouth!" Remember when they stole his not-so-real gold toofus?

I think my favorite definitely had to be when they won the cereal box vacation; I will never stop laughing at Martin holding the animal down and beating it in the face.

I should be considering this show rather corny (like with the nicknames, e.g. "Little Daddy Kane"), BUT IT STILL CRACKS.MY.SHIT.UP! "Little Daddy Kane" made me damn near cry.

Okay?  Then someone came in to get a pedicure and Shenehneh had to bust out the industrial sized sander and the woman's dead foot skin (or as Daddy Diva would say the "husk") was flying all the place!  Love that ep!

Definitely, "you got to go to work on Myra's feet!" Didn't you love the hairstyle that Gina wore that day?

Oh and this one episode came on the other day, the one where Martin saved the life of that prince and Paul Bates (OHA! Coming to America is love!) was a guest star. Well, the prince asked Martin if Gina could be his concubine and he got all excited (because he didn't know what it meant). HEE!

(paraphrasing here)
Martin (excited): Guess what, baby? You're gonna be his...CONCUBINE!
[Everyone's shocked, save for Cole, who just looks confused]
Cole: Gina ain't got needles; she can't be no porcupine!

Ohmuh-goodness, I loved the "Chiligans Island" episode when Marty and Pam commenced to kickin' the ass of that animal with the red eyes. That mess had me rollin!! Oh and pretty much any episode when Martin dances-cracks my shit up!! When Martin and Gina were getting married and Martin said something like "this is the last time I'ma get my boogie on as a single person" and then he broke it on down. I was all kinds of ROLLING! Dayum. That show was frickin' hilarious.

I don't care what anyone says. Martin had the best theme song of any show ever. I wish I could make a song entirely based on saying my name over and over. The scene in Dogma where Matt Damon busts out with the theme song from Martin was certainly the best scene of that whole movie and ranks as one of my funniest movie moments of all time.

We still get Martin reruns here and it doesn't matter how many times I have seen them I still bust a gut. They showed the one where his mother's bird dies and I damn near pissed myself.

My favorite characters have to be Jerome, Mama Payne and Bro Man.

But what was funny too was we never found out Tommy's job at all. (and when Martin ended, he was working in the 2nd season of 'New York Undercover' so that is where he was all this time)

Yep, I thought that was brilliantly hilarious on the actor’s part.

Yes, this show was definitely underrated, along with its neighbor Living Single. I honestly think that if Martin Lawrence didn’t go batshit-crazy by the end, the show would be getting a lot more love.

One of my favorite moments is when Gina finally convinces Martin to go to the Bargain Barn in an effort to cut their spending. He comes home wearing a terribly ill-fitting red warm-up suit with one leg and one sleeve longer than another, a too-tight white sweatband and some terribly ugly black Jordan sneakers knock-offs, all in preparation for a B-Ball game with his friends. Martin’s little dance of pain in the shoes coupled with his friends totally mocking him as soon as he steps out the front door gets me every time (“Look it’s Hobo Kelly! Say hello to Hobo Kelly y’all!”). Seriously, it’s his dance of pain that nails it.

ETA I forgot that ep that had Hustle Man trying to get a record contract by playing "Pick Up the Pieces" on a saxaphone while shuffling his feet around...except he ties a kazoo to the sax and plays just the kazoo with no idea how to work the sax. Hi. F-ing. Larious.

Just this visual has me spitting out Old E 800 all over my computer screen.

It's the one where they got Pam's cousin Alicia to sing. "Yeah, I admit I tapped my feet a little on 'PICK UP THE PEE-CESSSSSSS!' " The humor in that whole performances is that that is indeed, the only line of the song, but it is a BAD. ASS. SONG.

Despite the writing & overall cast chemistry taking a sharp decline in the last 2/3 seasons of the show, the writers occasionally could still produce some gems. Like Pam calling Martin "Little Tyke Turner" or "Inch High Private Eye", or Martin, Tommy & Cole "Harold Muppet & The Blue Notes". Pam & Martin sparring never ever fails to crack me up.
