Re Lionel's actions in Shattered, I'd say *Lex* deserves way better than him for a father.

I've just got my friend into Smallville & we were watching Vortex last night & it got to the scene with Lionel blaming Lex for his blindness & my friend said "He's such a bastard"

She's never been to this site, but his bastardness just shines through!

Should we still call him Magnificent Bastard or shall we now call him the Malignant Bastard?

I'd say "malignant."

No comments on the Malevolent Bastard for this week? Guess I'll go then.

I wonder if Lionel's little obsession with Clark's secret is going to drive him straight to the madhouse? I mean, he screwed himself over but good this time, but I think it'd be an interesting role-reversal if Lionel ended up mad and in his son's "loving hands" at the end. YMMV of course.

As if Lionel's past treatment of Lex wasn't reprehensible enough, he sank to new lows in Asylum. Drugging & commiting Lex against his will was bad enough, but subjecting him to EST on top of that just to cover his own ass was beneath contempt. No decent parent would even consider treating their child the way Lionel has treated Lex, especially when the child didn't deserve it. Like others have said before, Lionel doesn't love Lex, he just *thinks* he does, which makes his actions even worse. When the Malignant Bastard gets his just desserts, preferably by Lex's hand, I'll squee like a pig with its ass on fire. (LOL)

Lionel's exact words were, "You didn't mean to hurt him. It was an accident". So I can't see it as cot death with Lex finding the body. It seemed to me that something did actually happen, an accident in which Lex may have inadvertently caused Julians's death. I'm willing to bet that, "I never blamed you for what happened" was utter bull, and Lex knew that. Hence him screaming shut up.

I'm really interested in finding out the circumstances of Julians's death now, and if was in any way Lex's fault. Lionel implies there was something to forgive when he assures Lex that that he's on his sons side anyway. My theory is that Lex was in no way at fault for Julian's death, and Lionel played at being the supportive father by feeding him all the comments about "you can't blame yourself for this tragedy, Lex". In Shattered Lex totally freaked out when Lionel told him Julian's death wasn't his fault, to me it sounded like Lex had heard it all before.

While talking about *gangrene*. "Now, son, on the off chance that you don't end up a vegetable after this treatment, I just want you to remember that this is all your fault for having something wrong with your *brain* instead of a limb, which we could have just chopped off."

God, he's inappropriate.

Instead of Dr. Spock, Lionel must have read the "Lives of the Borgias" when Lex was a baby.

I wonder if Lionel would have put Lex through risky procedures if he didn't have another potential heir. Lucas is unpredictable but at least he has the genes. Lionel said he couldn't bear to lose another child but Lex is useless to him as an heir if he winds up a vegetable, and Lionel had no guarantee he wouldn't.

Well, Philip of Macedonia had no trouble attempting to off Alexander the Great.

What I can't understand is why Lionel would bother with the cloning when he's perfectly capable of siring further kids? CLoning for fun and profit, yes. For guaranteed continuation of the line, no.

Also, WRT Lex-as-a-vegetable-and-unable-to-reproduce: his brain might not work any more, but his balls would probably be producing just fine. If Lionel can force radical electrotherapy, he can sure as hell have Lex's sperm taken.

Gack! You made me think about Lionel taking Lex's sperm!

You're paying to have my eyes re-inserted into their sockets.

Actually I meant "heir" in more of the "take over the business" way, wanting the business to pass on to one of your own. I didn't make that clear. And then came the sperm.

Speaking of heirs to The Hair, where is Lucas? While he was under Lex's "protection", I would think that Lionel should have him back in the fold at this point.
