» Spoilers: Season 12 and earlier
Stalker

I am pinning this final warning to ensure that it can't possibly be missed.

If you can be shown to read this thread (that is, you post in it) and you are found going elsewhere on the boards and using spoiler information which you are trying to pass off as speculation, that is a warnable/bannable offense.

Seriously, it's really unfair to other posters, and it's also really lame, because it comes off like you're cheating and trying to make yourself look like you're just a very good guesser.

Please, please stop this. I have had more problems with this during this season than during any other, and I'm determined to get it stomped down as we get closer to the end. I don't want the show ruined for other people. Please don't continue to engage in this, if you're engaging in it now. Thanks very much to the great majority of you who are careful about this.

One week should definately mean us at least finding the 3rd, 4th, or 5th location. So I think there is hope in looking.

I don't know of a batch script.

Big dead spot between 1:00 am and 7:00 am, then lots of chance to get to Copenhagen, but only one to Oslo. Make'em work the airport!

Second article in Icelandic from the same site as Slowhatch's. Makes me think that there could be at least two pit stops in Iceland.

And the bottom picture makes me want to scream, "Run, Charla!"

ETA: Other news articles here, here, here, and here. At least one of them mentions Oslo.

The first line under the second sub-head in Bart's first link:
aftur į tökustaš viš Svartsengi um klukkan 05:00 ķ morgun
I think that that says something about "after a (stop/rest/stay) at Svartsengi at 5:00 in the morning..." then there's
20 mķnśtur aš rata frį hitaveitunni ķ Svartsengi śt į Grindavķkurveg.
identifying something as "20 minutes (to/from/between) Svartsengi and Grindavķkurveg."

The site with the two empty galleries is an Icelanding Scouting Association site (I think I used to be able to tie that knot on the front page!). If the dates are wrong, I wonder if they were just having their own event? (The only clunky translation I could find of their page mentions "supposed pay lip service to ...".) The Scout Council here has had "Road Rules"-themed events -- can you imagine having a local event only to find the real thing came through?

A page here puts together Svartsengi, Grindavik and the Blue Lagoon. There's also a link to a neat map on the left side of the page.

The Keflavik airport is on the map as well...upper-left.

I didn't realize this until now, but Iceland is bigger than I thought. There might be multiple pit stops there.

I was very excited to hear that they might be going to Oslo. I almost decided to go there on vacation (decided to go somewhere else) next week, but I did quite a bit of research on Scandinavia before I made my decision.

My first thought about what they could do in Norway is the "Norway in a Nutshell" Tour. You can see it here or here or here. What better way to get Norway's magnificent scenery on screen?

I believe Oslo to Copenhagen is a quick trip...a search turned up an Oslo-Copenhagen ferry that runs once a day.

The Oslo to Copenhagen ferry is an overnite ferry (similar to a cruise ship) it leaves at 7:00 pm and arrives at 9:15 am (here). I do not think that there is another ferry that travels between the two cities. However, there is always the train. I looked up the trains on rail europe and they had the following trains for tomorrow:

Leave Oslo/ Arrive Copenhagen
7:30/11:42
12:40/16:04
13:00/16:58
17:40/21:04

Columbus Dr. is not really a well used road (Michigan and Lake Shore are), and down in that part of the city, most of the high-rises are apartments and finacial offices. It's a bit too far south, save for the fountain, of touristy spots.

I definitely have to agree with this. If a racer were going to take the blue-line to O'hare (definitely the best option, time-wise) they could make it from the fountain to the stop at LaSalle Street Station without being spotted by anybody. I worked down in the financial district for a while, and it is pretty much a ghost-town in that area, even during weekday lunches. The area between the fountain and LaSalle Street Station wouldn't even be considered "downtown" to a local. It is further south than what people consider "downtown", and no where near the tourist spots of Michigan Avenue or the theater district, etc.

If the racers didn't know Chicago that well, they could easily have made the decision to head to Union Station, since would offer a lot of transportation options. If that were the case, they would have headed through the very south of the loop (along roughly the same path I took to work everyday) and never have been spotted or recognized. Plus, they could have easily been described as heading "toward the Sears Tower" since the tower is within spitting distance of Union Station.

I've been lurking and reading for a while, but when I saw the links to the articles from Iceland, I figured I'd put my insomniac nature to good use and see if I could uncover anything.

I'll have to tinker with the online translator and dictionary I found, but there's a potential clue in this article linked above.

Ķ fyrstu var haldiš aš žau myndu leggja af staš upp į flugvöll og fęru žašan meš vél Icelandic Express til annašhvort London eša Kaupmannahafnar en svo varš raunin ekki.

appears to point to the Iceland Express airline, mentioning going either to London or Copenhagen. Based on what I've been able to decipher from the articles, plus stuff upthread, it sounds like at least one team, if not all (charters?) goes from Rejkjavik to Copenhagen via Iceland Express, then they move on to Oslo.

I can't contribute much, but as far as I can see from comparing islandic to other Nordic languages is that
aftur į tökustaš viš Svartsengi um klukkan 05:00 ķ morgun
means "after (something) at Svartsengi at 5 a.m. tomorrow" and
Ķ fyrstu var haldiš aš žau myndu leggja af staš upp į flugvöll og fęru žašan meš vél Icelandic Express til annašhvort London eša Kaupmannahafnar en svo varš raunin ekki.
mentions something like "the first ones were lucky" then the "Icelandic Express to either London or Copenhagen" part, and lastly the last quote says "that was not the case".

And TAR is finally coming to Scandinavia, and they're going to Norway? Bastards.

Half past six must be a very busy time at the Reykjavik airport.

Actually Slowhatch, 6:30 am is very busy at most airports in western Europe as the vast majority of flights leaving NA arrive very early morning European time with the flight time being an "overnight". With the geographic location of Iceland, I can understand why it's the same flight schedule - you overnight on the plane and get the full day in the new country.

I'll start talking to my contacts in a certain large Oslo based company to see if they can do some searches on TAR coming through last week!

For you flight schedule people, please remember that Iceland does not use Daylight saving time, so there is two hours difference in Northern Hemisphere summer from Iceland to Norway (1 hour in winter).

It's really bizarre (well, not really, but to me) that Iceland-Norway is the first two legs this time around, because for a long time I've been mentally designing my "perfect race," the one I'd want to be on if they ran it, and Iceland-Norway was the first two legs. So . . . if it holds, the next section should involve Greece and Turkey.

If the Racers had to reach O'Hare from downtown on a Friday, I feel for them. Chicago has yet to provide a fast mass transit solution to the airports. The blue and orange lines are adequate, but express lines would be better. At least we have that pretty new park that only cost the arms and legs of the taxpayers.
