» What is... Jeopardy

I said "Lewis and Clark" for the FJ question. I guess I wasn't alone.

And I'm full-on for the Ken love. Jeopardy will be appointment viewing for me until his streak is broken.

When is the Tournament of Champions? Who else here is DYING to see Ken vs. Tom Walsh?

Me! Over here! MEEEEEE!!!!!

Actually, I'm hoping for another Million-Dollar Masters in a year or two, with Ken up against Brad Rutter and Chuck Forrest. OK Jeopardy writers - unleash the REALLY tough stuff, like "Name the 13th Century Serf" or "People in the Phone Book".

Okay, I know from the above postings the FJ question from a few days ago was "what is a dishwasher", but I missed that show and now am intrigued that it seems to be considered a tough one. Can someone please post the FJH answer?

For some reason, I hadn't yet deleted that episode from my TiVo. The full text:

Inventions: Josephine Cochrane's 1886 version of this consisted of a copper boiler, wire baskets & a pump

The category was "Inventors" (or maybe "Inventions") and the clue was something like "In 1886 ________ Cochrane [it was a woman's first name, but I can't remember it] invented this using a copper boiler, a pump, and two wire baskets."

Bravo Jeopardy staff - having a Richard III category less than two weeks before my appearance. He is one of my favorite English Kings - I even have the magnet of his picture on my fridge. I would have so run the category. Sigh.

TES had another Ken mention this morning - they showed FJ at 7:30 this morning. And, he's now made CNN

Sorry to be coming a few days late to the party. I didn't know about your forum until somebody linked to my Bill Cullen page.

Just wanted to thank you for the nice words. Ken was great, the expereience was great, the only thing that wasn't great (for me, of course) was the outcome! (Ironically, I would have known last night's Jefferson-Adams one, so you know, coulda-woulda-shoulda.)

I wasn't trying to be jokey on the Katzenjammer thing, I honestly didn't know how to say it correctly. Didn't matter, of course, because of the way FJ played out, but it certainly was a turning point in our game. As was the late DD in Africa, which would have been a turning point even if I had found it first -- because I would have missed that one!

The Sony board does a weekly poll about the difficulty of the FJ clues, and I'm anxious to see where this "dishwasher" one falls. Most people I've talked to and read comments from didn't know it, and here on your forum is the first time I've seen Ken say that his correct response was, at least in part, a guess. And yeah, "artificial lung" was out there, but hey, I was desperate!

Finally, ranne, did we know each other in high school? Your screen name suggests to me someone I remember pretty well. If it's you, I'll tell Tracey hi for you.

I haven't been to the Jeopardy website in a while and I just went back - Ken has his own section now - called the Daily Update.

Hi Matt - welcome to the Jeopardy thread aka the Ken Jennings show on TWOP.

Heh. I would have run that category too (me yelling at the TV "FIFTEENTH CENTURY!" "HENRY VII! HENRY VII!")

I don't have a magnet of him, but I do have magnets of Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I on my fridge.

Regis mentioned Ken today in one of those weird "in the news" features, pointing out that Ken took 10+ shows to win what is "chump change" on Super Millionaire.

I know, Henry VII! Its all thanks to Josephine Tey and the Daughter of Time.

Yesterday was the second time Romeo appeared on a Ken show. I wonder how many other times things will turn up more than once.

Welcome Matt - I thought you were a terrific player with a bad luck of the draw. At this point I'm watching to see who can give Ken a run for his money, and you were one, as was the lady last night (I'm blanking o her name). And I noticed you hunting for that last DD - good thinking (of course, you just missed).

That DD hunting during Matt and Ken's game to me has been the highlight of the whole run. It was shrewd and intense and fun.

Also, Ken - my roommate is a graphic designer and watches in part to see how you'll write your name. She commented that you have a very good sense of typography.

I loved the time card joke. Probably because, being a TV crew person myself, I can totally see that happening. The crew sitting around snarking on things, as we tend to do, and coming up with that. Made me laugh out loud.

My mom was a member of the Richard III Society so naturally Daughter of Time was required reading in our house ... and it just makes so much more sense that Henry VII would have both reason and opportunity to kill the princes, not to mention that the only reason that Richard III got such a bad rap in history was the Shakespearean play and gee, who was the reigning monarch at the time he wrote it???

MattO, I am pretty sure I remember you from my days on the J! board. Lack of moderation and a pretty nasty harassment campaign against little old moi by a few posters was enough to make the board lose its charm for me in a hurry, but I do miss some of my old friends there (please say hi to FaithyMoo, who actually pointed me in the direction of TWoP, Fleeboy and DougSlash among others if you are so inclined ... also Ohinigal aka Umiko if she is still around).

Sea, I'd love to know where you found an Anne Boleyn refrigerator magnet ... I guess there isn't one of Catherine Howard since apparently there are no known pictures of her (the one they thought was her for so many years turns out to be, ironically, one of the Seymour sisters or cousins).

My friend Umiko got a "Six Wives of Henry VIII" question for Final Jeopardy! And none of them got it right! Do you know what I would have done for a category like that? We had been joking about what the perfect "me board" would be (as well as the world's worst "me board", which was what I ended up getting for both rounds), and the wives of Henry VIII was prominently featured on my wish list.
