An issue that we haven't really addressed here is the impact of the 911 terrorist attacks on the DA plot lines.
It didn’t occur to me at the time of watching because I got to see it so long after the event, but I think that this is obviously another factor in the change of tone between seasons.

I actually loved the fact that they kept using trannies – given tha the show’s set in the future, I give them leeway for adapting the word thusly to describe the transgenics. It came across as both affectionate and derogatory, and felt more organic than transies. Plus as scififan said it was probably a joke on purpose, given the fact that they wove in homosexual characters/subtext (didn’t Normal date a woman who used to be a man or something in season 1?)

Or what DrCher said.

Do you notice that when Renfro is speaking French on the phone, that the translation that comes on screen spells Manticore wrong? It says Manitcore.

rikraq, is that on the video (original braodcast) only, or on the DVD too? [/too lazy to check]

Speaking of DVDs:
Does anyone have the seasons and just don't have the heart to watch them yet? I received the second season, in advance from a pal, as a gift a few months ago for my birthday and I still don't have the motivation to watch them. Am I the only one with this problem?

Not that but I looked at Season 1 on the shelves at Best Buy for three month before spending the money. Then I said what the hell...you know you want them, and unlike several movie DVDs I've bought and still not watched, I knew this would be different. No problem once I watched the pilot. I pre-ordered season 2 so that I would get 30% off. If you only have season 2 I can see your problem. I'd start with the pilot episode and you get right into it.

One other theory regarding Renfro is that she could have been a black ops government operative who knew all about the Familiars and their agenda to rule the world, as well as Sandeman's break-away from the cult and the fact he'd found a cure.

I think that you've got a good one there. That could also explain the mysterious meeting in Washington DC at the end of Harbor Lights.

I just read over at IMDb that Jessica Alba is dating Mark Wahlberg, he's 32 which would making him 10 years older than Jessica, start of a trend?

I watch my S2 DVDs all the time just for the Alec bits -- easy to fastforward through what I don't want to see.

IMHO the commentaries on DT, TBA, HG, and even FN are worth watching the DVDs for, just to hear Moira rave about Alec/Jensen.

I've had some problems watching the DVDs. I'm about halfway through season one, and that's all in a rush. I found that once I started watching, I was enjoying them, but once interrupted (two months ago), I haven't worked up to watching again. As opposed to DVDs of other shows (like Angel) where I put everything on hold for a marathon as soon as I get the DVDs. I really don't know why, but you're not alone.

Not really. She dated Michael Weatherly during the DA days and IIRC he was 10 years older than her.

I have to admit I have been putting off buying the dvds, even though my tapes have completely been worn out. I wishlisted them on Amazon and I keep looking at them at the store, but I haven't yet bought them. In the meantime, I've preordered Angel and Firefly.

I suspect it's because if I watch them, I will yet again be embittered by the whole thing. Similarly, I couldn't bear to watch any of my Farscape dvds after the cancellation, but once the miniseries was announced I had a marathon.

Same here. I am also afraid that I'll now realize that the series did suck.

Let's don't over state the case. They shared a table at New Years party and left in the same limo. We really don't have any info as to what really is going on between them. Maybe she said "Hey, Mark if you drop me off at my hotel in your limo the press will see us and we'll get some free publicity." and he "Cool! And, it will make my ex-girlfriend, Jealous too." On the other hand....

As far as the age thing, don't forget that on the occasion of her eighteenth birthday Jessica Alba announced:

Oh, and there's something else. "I just turned 18," reports Alba at a Beverly Hills hotelroom. "I'm legal." Professionally, she can sign her own contracts, make her own decisions. "And," she adds, "now I can date older guys if I want..."

Lighten up. The first season was real good. And, the second season had Jensen Akles! My advice is to just watch one show per day. You'll have a good time.

Or do like I do and imagine the characters in a much more expanded DA universe, no longer constrained by storyline continuity problems and writer/creator differences of opinion -- not to mention no longer hindered by having to cater to the whims of certain "stars."

I also try to think of the DA series the way Max Allan Collins says he does -- that what we saw on television, or in the books, is just a tiny slice of the life those people (characters) lead -- that lots and lots of stuff happens to them "behind the scenes" that the viewers/readers don't know about. That's the only way make a fantasy life come alive. What we have are only glimpses, with many juicy things left to the imagination and infinite stories to tell.

Pip - Are you Max Allan Collins agent? You bring up his name a lot. (Just wondering)
