OT: I met the campaign dude, Reg E. Cathey (Querns in OZ), 3 years ago when he attended a reading of a friend of his, who was billed to read with me. So I stood up there reading my trite, trying my best to suppress my excitement that QUERNS was there. It was a small audience, too, so I was able to go up to him afterward to tell him I was a fan. He's the nicest guy, all smiles and a humble swagger. Love it!

No matter how many roles he does he will always be the guy from Square One to me.

As for any homoerotic subtext, I'm pretty sure they're not assigning sexual identities to little kids. And Snoop has only been shown to be a killer, not lesbionic. She also seems pretty young, could she really have gone to prison? In her bio it says she goes to the Baltimore School of the Arts, a local high school. Maybe she went to juvie but I doubt prison.

Someone just provided me with a great link that will help me (since obviously I can't remember anything) remember all old and new characters.

Thanks, as much as I love this show, I never post over here because it takes me the whole season just to get all the characters’ names straight, and I’d read like a idiot always referring to “the guy” or “the other guy” when posting. I was so disappointed when they killed Stringer, not just because he was such a great character, but because I actually had his name memorized three seasons ago.

One of the things touched on in one of the two Wire preview specials, that I appreciated, was the comedy of the show. The Wire could easily be the bleakest thing on television, but the dark humor of the series somehow makes it one of the funniest for me. Case in point: the dueling power point presentations. This is your reality. This is your no-semblance-to reality on power point. Any questions? Also, Bunk and his roaming hands on McNulty will always have my love and laughter.

A few years ago I read the book Freakonomic, which has a whole chapter on how the drug trade has almost the exact same business structure as fast food franchises. After reading the book I really began to appreciate Stringer’s college scenes and his weekly meetings with his corner heads. However, seeing Brodie this first episode, I marvel at what a survivor he is, but at the same time, I just don’t think the poor guy is ever going to get any higher than McDonald’s night-manager level.

Agreed. Going way back to the chess scene in season 1, I thought Bodie was getting set up to be the "smart ass pawn," who would climb his way up the ladder and become a major player. But with the way things have turned out I don't see it that way anymore. Now that I know more about the way the show works, I think it's a better bet he just exposes that whole myth of making your way up from the bottom.

Maybe, even in the drug trade, a ruthless pawn who would shoot his own friend for a promotion still doesn't have what it takes to become Queen.

[As bleak and hopeless as the show is, there are always just enough flashes of possiblity.

ITA. If this was just another bad guy/good guy show, I wouldn't be so addicted. It's the complexity, the grey area, the fact that it is not all good or bad that there is so much in between. It's the Bubs, the Wallace's, the D'Angelo's and the cute little Randy looking at Dukie not with lust, IMO, but with understanding and compasion.

Can't wait to see Prez and Bunny in school!

but the dark humor of the series somehow makes it one of the funniest for me

I loved Roberts Rules of Order at the first meeting.

Well, i only suggested such since she is playing a character that has the same name as her, and she is gay in real life

Consistency question:

If Wee Bey had a woman and a son back in Season 1, why did he need D to watch his fish when he hid out in Philly? Did they just not live together?

Yeah, she is just his BM (baby momma), which doesn't mean they actually lived together. He was single in season one

How do we know this? Is there an article somewhere? If so, would you mind linking to it? I'd enjoy reading it. Thank you.

dronkmunk,

Pearson may be gay in real life, and the character she plays may be close to who she is or who she was in real life, but until her sexuality is dealt with on the show I don't think you can consider her a gay character.

And whatever homosexual tendecies you saw in Randy seem to stem from your own issues, since I doubt any other member here picked up on this "ghey" vibe that you alone managed to single out.
