Speculation-y!

Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that somebody on the show is named "Veronica Mars".

From the moment I saw the previews, I was thinking "Chloe Sullivan on a UPN budget, played by a poor man's Allison Mack".

Yeah, it is nice to see that at least someone out there felt that Chloe Sullivan should have her own show - too bad Allison Mack is still tied to Smallville where they probably plan to kick her around in favor of Lana for another year or two more.

I will give this show at least one shot since I really like Enrico Colantoni and this show is done by the same guy who did Cupid - I just hope that if it turns out to be good it doesn't suffer the same fate.

I am planning on checking this out. All the media writeups I have seen on it have been positive. I like Enrico Colantoni, and he is supposed to have excellent chemistry with the girl who plays the lead.Plus, it's a total underdog, gotta support the underdog.

UPN actually has two shows on USA TODAYS best bets list, this one, and the Taye Diggs thing. Go figure.

Hmmm, don't know where this really belongs, but I'll try here. So they've been filming some stuff down here in San Diego. On the Stu Segall website (Background San Diego), there's an announcement for an open casting call for extras (to play high school students). And about two weeks ago, they needed some guys to be "video gamers" at some video gaming place by the beach. And a couple of days ago, I was driving by this abandoned bank and saw all this production stuff. Posted near the area were these yellow directional signs that said "MARS", and they'd put some writing on the glass doors of the bank, that wasn't the old bank's name. Didn't catch what it said though.

I'm going to try and look into becoming an extra though. Might as well take the opportunity while they're down here!

This show is quirky, right? Isn't there an absolute formula that says:

Quirky + UPN = Canceled?

I think the formula is "Quirky + Fox = Cancelled", actually.

Or perhaps "Quirky + UPN = How Did This Happen?"

Well, the guy who created this show, Rob Thomas (no, not that Rob Thomas) also created the show Cupid with Jeremy Piven a few years back. That was a Quirky+ABC+Can'tWin Time Slot=Cancelled disaster, so we'll see with this one. I expect a dramedy heavy on the quirkiness. (He was also hired by David E. Kelley to run Snoops, but quit before an episode of that show ever aired. Good move, Rob!)

Well, I saw on Entertainment Tonight or Extra - one of those shows, anyway - that Paris Hilton is going to do a guest shot on this show.

One the one hand, it will generate some interest since America apparently can't get enough of talentless skanks. On the other...dude, does the new show that sounds so promising really need the stench of Hilton all over it?

Paris Hilton?! No, say it isn't so!

This show hasn't even aired yet, and it's already gone from my favorite pilot of the year to the biggest "Yuck!" factor. It took The OC fourteen episodes to do that.

Personally, I can't wait for Paris's guest shot. I'm not saying she's a great actress or singer or model or even reality show star. I'm just saying that she's kinda pretty and she's very odd...which I like.

Besides, it's just one episode, right?

Veronica Mars' love interest is most probably already attached. Then...she finds out his girlfriend is cheating on him while snooping for stories. Just a thought.

I'm probably gonna download the first few eps to see how it turns out. I'm supporting anyone that's from Just Shoot Me!. Enrico Colantoni was great.

When I heard "Veronica Mars", I thought it was a show like Suddenly Susan or Veronica's Closet. But it's a teen show, which is even worse. Damn.

Ok, here is my speculation........(from the wife of a real life private investigator)

There will be mysteries that need to be solved and the 17 year old girl with the help of her newbie PI father will do, say and get involved in situations that most real life PI's would never do.

Most PI shows on TV are nowhere near what really happens and no, you can't break the law to solve the case. That makes it hard to hire good employees, because they see it on TV and think that it's the career for them and then find that it's really quite tedious, repetative and boring work most of the time.

Aside from the cute girl, my speculation is that this show will have little to offer and not be around long.

I think this is already kind of playing out, but I'm willing to go with it. I think you could probably say the same about any "glamorous" or "unusual" occupation that TV ever portrays. There's already some implausibility, but the writing & acting are good, so I'll give them a pass.

After reading some of the reviews, I had high hopes that it would have something to offer, and I wasn't disappointed by the pilot--but I'm sorry to say that your second speculation is probably right on (especially after seeing the early ratings).
