Should we also talk about the cane here? Which one is more slimming?

I wonder why they switched? Did the first one get broken in some props department disaster?

What's a BOUO?

The infarction makes a wonderful backstory for House, but it also provides a reason for the cane, which just has to be one of the greatest props ever. I love acting with canes (which may be why The Little Tramp is one of my favorite costumes for Halloween... though now a frumpy sportscoat, un-ironed button down shirt and dark t-shirt with jeans or khakis and severe 5 o'clock shadow may overtake it).

BOUO = Ball Of Unknown Origin. See the music thread for a picture of it. We had a great debate about back in the old days of single-threadom.

We've had a plethora of guesses on what the BOUO is, ranging from a lacrosse ball to a dog toy.

Hee, thanks eejm. I was too scared to make my own subforum. It's like a whole new world out there.

What's a BOUO?

It's an acronym for the infamous Ball of Undeterminable Origin.

You know that ball that House has on his desk? Someone asked what type it was, and the resulting debate went on for days. Until I believe it was finally revealed to be a tennis ball.

This reminds me: we so need a Q & A thread.

And I got beat to the punch. I must learn to type faster. Or less.

Awww, the BOUO is headlining a thread!

Until I believe it was finally revealed to be a tennis ball.

Nah, I think the debate rages on still. Personally, I agree with whoever said it was a ball from one of those velcro catch-and-throw paddle thingies.

Not a problem, deekay. There's just so much to discuss about this show that I'm trying to decide what is worthy of its own subforum myself. Pair that with just trying to get over the wonderful shock that this show is going to be recapped and my brain is pretty much mush today.

I thought it was a locrosse ball. In the episode where he treated the lacrosse player, the way House acted at the game at the end of the episode made me think he used to play.

This is why we need a shoutout. It's too big to be a tennis ball. It's also too big to be a lacrosse ball (and also too fuzzy - lacrosse balls are hard rubber). I hadn't heard the velcro catch-and-throw paddle theory.

I try and try to let go of my obsession with the BOUO but it's right there in every episode, staring me defiantly in the face. C'mon lurking minions of David Shore - throw us a bone (yep - someone hypothesized that the BOUO is a dog toy) and tell us what it is and why it merits a position of honor, front and center on House's desk...

From Edwin F. Sneller in the Meet Market thread.
[Side note: I think I saw the mystery ball at SuperTarget yesterday. It's barely fuzzy, cost $1, and is a dog toy.]
Who's going to check it out?

I haven't noticed it in the actual episodes, but based on that picture in the music thread the BOUO looks like a practice softball. I have a vague recollection from some point in the gym containing portion of my schooling that such things exist and are brightly and doubly colored.

Practice softballs can be colored, but they aren't fuzzy. Fuzzy--such an endearing trait.

Oh, and thank you eejm for the thread.
