Are you flying to the U.S just to see the finale or is there some other reason you're going over? Because that is dedicated - HH2004

*blush* nope no other reason but to see TWW finale in real time (now you know why my friends and colleagues think I am nuts ); fly in on saturday return to Lonson on the Monday... short trip to indulge my obession <G>

If we don't get the retrospective on TV I hope at some point we have confirmation that it be available on the DVDs

A friend of mine called NBC and got through to the Publicity Director and was told "We felt creatively, it was the way to go." Boy, are they wrong. I'm off to send a polite but angry e-mail.

The guy he spoke to was Joe Libonati, Publicity Director. His phone number/contact info is on the NBCUMV website.

Thank your friend for getting an answer for us, Dianora. I'll be sending a politely-worded nastygram of my own later today.

Aren't retrospectives usually just clips with a voice-over? I mean, even if they have some interview clips from the actors, it would still be mostly a clip show, right? [/sour grapes]

I can only hope that Joe Libonati's blackberry is receiving so many messages that it vibrates right off the table.
There are some other names in the press releases too, although one of them sent me back an "out of office reply".

I don't know if this belongs in the speculation thread - but since it's speculation about NBC, maybe I'm in the right place.

I'm trying to fathom what could have been said in the retrospective that would make them pull it - especially after publicizing it.

Was it a rights question - do they have to pay residuals if they use a clip?

Was it something that the actors or producers objected to - and if so, what?

Does it involve Aaron Sorkin - is there some reason he would object and is there a relationship with his new show being officially picked up??

My thought, which is probably totally wrong, is that it is Mother's Day and airing something at 6/7, as the case may be, might be tough to get viewers. But that would support its being aired at a later time or maybe on another night.

Okay, I talked to Joe Libonatii too. He picked up on the first ring, got to give him credit for that...
He said they "decided to go a different way" and air the pilot. He said the Retrospective had not yet been produced. I asked him about the clip on the website and he repeated that it had not yet been produced. Whatever.
I asked him if it was going to be on at a different time and he said "no"
I asked him if it was going to be on the DVD and he said that decision was up to WArner Brothers.

So not the answers I was looking for...

All right, that does it! I've had it! After May 14th, I'm NEVER going to watch TWW on NBC again! So don't try to talk me out of it...... ;)

Thanks amycheetah for the report.

I wonder if they decided that the ratings for WW haven't been strong enough to invest in a retrospective??

I'm not sure I believe Mr. Libonati, however, that it hadn't been produced. I would think at least part of it had been done since we saw clips from it.

Hmmmmm

But, yet, they are still goint to broadcast the pilot episode in the hour before Tomorrow.

If NBC decided they could do better with that hour with non-WW programming, and ran a regular Dateline....well, as Mrs. Landinham said, I can respect that.

But if they were just too lazy or cheap to finish producing the restrospective, and are sticking the pilot in as a last-minute even-cheaper replacement, then, NBC, I don't even want to know you.

Because there is no way on Earth that a rebroadcast of the pilot would do better in that time slot than a retrospective. Especially since the pilot has been shown many, many times on Bravo and is avialable (commercial free) on DVD.

Thanks Amycheetah for the report and Tom for the email address. I know we are shooting the messenger by writing to Joe, but I highly recommend bombarding him with email so maybe if he has a single brain cell, he will let some of the NBC scum know they owe us that retrospective for cancelling our show.

Whitford made the IT list at MSNBC.com!
You can raise his "IT" level here (PS, this works better in IE than Firefox)
