Why aren't you recapping Show X?
A couple of reasons. One is money. We pay our recappers, and the more shows we have on the site, the more money we have to pay out. We'd love to recap every show on TV, but at the moment we can't afford it. The other reason is our awareness of our demographic. In our first year of existence, we experimented with all kinds of shows. Some worked, and some we thought would do really well weren't of any apparent interest to you, our readers. So we try to allocate our resources in shows we think have the best chance of thriving on the site. Take a stroll through Permanent Hiatus to see the graveyard of shows on which we've gambled, and lost.
If a show has already started and it doesn't have a section on the site (check our complete show index to make sure), it's pretty safe to assume that we won't be recapping it.
Awwww, why not? You guys could do such a funny job with it!
Why, thankee. We do have good reasons for these decisions, though, so you'll just have to trust us (and refrain from blitzing us with emails about adding the show). You can head over to Other TV Shows on our forums and talk about it if you like, but if it's three weeks into the season and you haven't seen a recap, there aren't going to be any. Accept it and move on.
Why won't there be any more recaps of certain shows even though the show is still on?
Some shows we thought would do really well weren't of any apparent interest to you, our readers. We'd rather put our time, money, and the talents of our staff towards programs you guys actually want to read about and discuss. Again, you can still talk about those shows in the Other TV Shows section.
Oh, and no need to email us. We know CSI: Miami is still on TV. We just aren't covering it anymore. The same goes for Trading Spaces.
It's been three days. Where's the recap?
With few exceptions, all our recappers have full-time jobs not related to this site -- and quality takes time, don't you know. If you want to know when the recaps for your shows go live, you should subscribe to the appropriate RSS feed.
Can I post your recaps on my site?
No, you sure can't. All the recaps that appear on the site are the property of Television Without Pity. Posting our content without permission is legally actionable, and we will protect our intellectual property to the fullest extent of the law.
I want to be a recapper. How can I make that happen?
We are more than fully staffed at the moment and don't anticipate hiring anyone new. It's nothing personal, and we're sure you're really funny and talented, but the fact is that we are staffed up the wazoo, and what with all the shows that get cancelled and leave their recappers stranded, it's quite possible that we may not hire anyone new ever again.
"Well, I'll just email them anyway." Okay...but you really shouldn't bother. At the risk of appearing rude, we really have to tell you, your chances are literally nil at this point. We do appreciate your enthusiasm, but we aren't hiring. At all.
What do the Active and Permanent Hiatus status markers on the Shows page mean?
Active: Shows that are currently (more or less) being recapped.
Permanent Hiatus: Shows which we are no longer recapping. Just because we sent a show to Permanent Hiatus doesn't mean we think it's been cancelled. No need to email us.
Don't you people have anything better to do than sit around criticizing TV shows?
No. We don't have anything better to do. In turn, we must ask whether you have anything better to do than ask us if we have anything better to do? You don't? Well, that's cool. We're going to just ignore you, then. Is that okay?
Our mandate is, more or less, to give people a place to revel in their guilty televisual pleasures. In most cases, we have a complex love/hate relationship with the show, and this site is a way for us to work through those feelings. If we plain hated a show, we wouldn't pay it any attention at all.
