The Old Rock Star Thread

Hopefully it's ok to start this up, since the audition dates have been announced. As I am too old for Idol at 37 I am taking the plunge and auditioning for this when it comes to Vancouver in March. I must say I am very happy that they added Vancouver this year for there was no way i could get over to Seattle or Toronto last time.

I may be a long shot but I figure if I don't try, I don't know. At the very least who knows, maybe I'll get talked about here :)

Oh, there is a God! It's no secret that I'm not a fan of Ryan, but that was a really terrible performance. The second he said "Baba O'Riley" I knew he was a goner. He didn't have the vocal chops to nail that song and he seemed especially awkward out there tonight. Even a Toby-style prop couldn't save him. I think it's awfully cute he thinks he'll be up there on the record charts.

I love that Dilana picked "Psycho Killer" but I also didn't think much of her performance. She really did seem lost up there a few times. I'm hoping it's just because she picked the song at the last minute and that she'll pull it together again before Sunday.

I was really scared that Storm would get booted, and am immensely relieved that she survived another week. Smart girl, letting Tommy get his hands on her tonight!

They really just need to send Gilby home. Seriously, could he look any more bored? Does he even like music? Ugh. Replace him with Chopper, please!

Okay, first of all: of all the fucking reality shows to make me tear up, this is not the one I would have chosen! But, the second I heard Storm was doing WYWH I just knew it had to be for her mom and that totally got to me. What a beautiful note to go out on.

Although I'm sad to see Storm go, there is an upside to this: maybe the Storm & Zayra tour will happen! After all, it's only the final four who are stuck touring with SN, right? The ladies can rock out and break the hearts of straight girls across the country.

ambystone, get those TSCWWDS shirts ready and truelady, start researching the best RVs - I have just decided this tour needs to happen and I need to be there!

PS: I love Cheap Trick, but they're punk? Power pop, sure, but despite Dilana's best effort I can't say I'll ever think of that song as a punk song. It was nice to see her hop around and try to just have fun again, but some of those squeals scared the crap out of me and my cat. (And not in the good-scared style of her early performances.)

You know, if tonight's song were the very first Supernova song shared with the world, the show wouldn't have had to go into damage control last week. MUCH better: catchy, upbeat but with a bit of a sneer, lyrics that... well, aren't mind-bogglingly awful (I haven't parsed them to glean all of their sheer poetry, but nothing stood out as being immediately horrible). In short, something I'd actually be glad to hear again, with the added, totally unexpected bonus of providing a backdrop for Toby to give his best performance yet. Nice damage control, guys. You still fucked up last week.

Oh, and Patrice gets shitcanned. Yawn.
