Old Men in Trees Thread

Just saw the pilot. I sort of liked the first half of the episode, but lost it at the end. The monologue/voice over at the end was pretty bad and I had to struggle to keep attention.

Anne Heche is also very annoying. I do like that it is in Alaska. I'm a big fan of Alaska. But overall, okay. Then again, I'm pretty easy to please.

ETA: Yeah, no idea why it was picked up. It has no buzz or acclaim or a chance for widespread audience appeal.

SPOILER Discussion

Sorry - not very good at word play, so no fancy title - anyone care to remedy that?

Anyway, New Zealand is showing the last few episodes of the first season, starting from next Monday night (NZ time - about early Sunday morning in the States), so unless there are strong objections, I'm happy to provide details!

From our local tv guide: Marin gets lost in the woods and Jack finds her.

From what I can recall of the preview last night (was a bit overexcited that it wasn't the final, so wasn't paying enough attention!): Lynn tells Jack he doesn't love her (either enough or as much as he used to) and Sheriff and her boss are together again.

Questions About the Show

I like the show, but there are a few things that don't quite make sense to me. (And I don't know if these were discussed in the old thread, so I'm starting them here!)

The first is fairly minor: the weather. I've never been to Alaska, but I'm pretty sure that even a "heat wave" up there doesn't mean quite the levels of heat as it does in the lower 48 states. So why is Marin, who's a New Yorker, reacting so strongly to the heat (light clothes, sweating, etc.)? She couldn't have acclimated quite that fast! Also, we rarely see snow or bad weather...

The second issue wouldn't make for good television, so I can see why it's being done this way. But if Jack and Lynn were together for most of their lives and had only broken up four months before Marin arrived, would Jack really be ready to get into a serious relationship with Marin? I can see that he might think he was (rebound and all that). The same goes for Marin, too; she was about to get married! In light of this, Jack trying to make things work with Lynn makes sense.

Plus, if Lynn grew up in Elmo, wouldn't we have heard about her from some of the other residents? After all, she had other friends there, and it's likely she would have kept in touch with them; in fact, I'm surprised that no one gave Marin the whole Jack-Lynn story.

ACTOR: Anne Heche

I resisted the urge to sub-title this thread 'call me crazy'.

Anne Heche's filmography

I'm not exactly a fan, but at the same time she's probably the main reason I started to watch the show. She has a unique screen presence, very interesting and charismatic; I've enjoyed her work on the show a lot and was impressed by her work in films like Wag the Dog.

Thoughts on Anne Heche?

I wish I had someone who was so damn handy in real life, just without the sick attachment to Lynn.
