I heard a bad rumor today that the show's cancellation will be announced on Monday in the trades.

The cancellation of tonight's planned reruns of the first two episodes (in favor of a ginormous Dateline) can't be good. (It's definitely not good for me because the DVD I recorded them on went flooey and I was going to redo it.) Wonder if Law & Order has already called dibs on the Wednesday spot?

On the positive tip, the next two episodes are still on the schedule for this Wednesday and next, and USA is still scheduled to air a rebroadcast of "Special Delivery" Wednesday at 11:00 ET. So we'll see…but I'm worried.

Multiple Identities: The Cast in Other Roles

The Kidnapped cast has been in other things, some of them impressive (Timothy Hutton in Ordinary People, Jeremy Sisto in Six Feet Under, Mykelti Williamson in Forrest Gump, Dana Delany in China Beach and Delroy Lindo in Ransom) others, um, not so much (Doug Hutchison in Bait, Carmen Ejogo in Metro).

Anyway, if there's any Kidnapped cast member who's in another role that's worth talking about, award-caliber or not, them chat about them here, to your heart's content.

Old Kidnapped Thread

I thought this was as good a time as any to start the Kidnapped thread as the pilot episode has just become available to Netflix subscribers (along with the Studio 60 pilot). From NBC:

NBC's "Kidnapped" is a high-stakes serialized thriller in which the teenaged son of a wealthy Upper East Side family is kidnapped and everyone is a suspect. The series focuses on the elaborate, triangulated game between the kidnappers, FBI and law enforcement, and the private negotiating team contracted by this perhaps not-so-picture-perfect family.

On a rainy New York morning, the idyllic existence of Conrad Cain (Oscar winner Timothy Hutton, "Ordinary People," "Kinsey"), a self-made millionaire with a long list of enemies, and his well-to-do wife Ellie (Emmy Award winner Dana Delany, "China Beach") is torn apart when their 15-year-old son Leopold (Will Denton, "Palindromes"), a smart but quirky kid whose innocence makes him the perfect target, is kidnapped on his way to school. The boy's bodyguard Virgil (Mykelti Williamson, "Boomtown"), the boy's first line of defense even after the kidnapping, is left to die.

Desperate to find his son while keeping his skeletons hidden, Cain enlists the services of Knapp (Jeremy Sisto, "Six Feet Under," "Thirteen"), a professional investigator who works outside the law's strict rulebook to retrieve kidnapping victims and guide families through the grueling process, and Turner (Carmen Ejogo, "Lackawanna Blues"), his able partner and right hand.

Operating opposite Knapp and his team are Special Agent Latimer King (Delroy Lindo, "The Core"), an experienced FBI agent who postpones his retirement due to a vested interest in this complicated case, as well as King’s colleague and antithesis, Agent Andy Archer (Linus Roache, "Batman Begins"), who only knows how to play by the rules.

I've only had the chance to watch the opening ten minutes of this show, but it really looks great. First off, the production values are outstanding. This is like something you'd see in the cinema. The cast is extremely strong. The standout seems to be Mykelti Williamson who plays Virgil Hayes, bodyguard to Leopold and a 'modern day samurai'. That's pretty badass! The rest of the cast look great too, especially Hutton and Delany. Jeremy Sisto seems to be the main character and seems very interesting. Delroy Lindo hasn't yet appeared but he always brings his A-game.

Lots of comparisons to the movie Ransom have been thrown out. That's not surprising - both have exactly the same premise. Hell, both have Delroy Lindo! But I think Kidnapped will forge a separate identity as the series progresses. It's got huge potential.

Oh, and apparently the plan for the second season (should they get that far) is to continue the show with Sisto and Lindo's characters (and the rest of the investigators). The Cain family would disappear presumably.
