The Race Is On: Ratings And Scheduling

What kind of numbers can we hope for with the Premiere?

Even though Fox is spending a lot promoting it, I don't think they'll be expecting too much from it, seeing as all of their new shows this season haven't done well, and some of their established shows (Prison Break) have had slipping ratings.

Braking News: Drive in the Media

Some earlier previewish stuff:

EW: Winter TV Preview (scroll down near the bottom)

That's when Fox paired [Minear] with writer Ben Queen to produce Drive, a Lost-esque crypto-drama about a diverse group of ordinary folks who — either by choice or by force — compete in an illegal cross-country car race with a shady history and a $32 million jackpot. Minear dug the premise: He saw Drive as a storytelling machine, and within each vehicle he envisioned a world of possibilities. ''A car can be funny,'' he says. ''A car can be sad. A car can be scary. Or fast, or slow, or ironic — every one of them could have a different tone but exist in the same world.'' His bottom-line summary: Drive is ''two parts Cannonball Run and one part The Game,'' the reality-blurring 1997 thriller starring Michael Douglas. ''And four parts Magnolia, too.''

USA Today: Coming attractions: Fox has the 'Drive'

"It's a little bit like my last three shows on Fox," Minear says.
Alex Tully: Gets Our Motors Running

...Or not, depending on your perspective. Anyway, Alex Tully is a Nebraska landscaper whose main reason to enter the race, besides the $32 million dollar prize, is to rescue his kidnapped wife. He also happens to be played by the lovely and talented Nathan Fillion, he of One Life to Live, Two Girls, A Guy and A Pizza Place and Saving Private Ryan fame. And who could ever forget him in his greatest role to date, as Captain Malcolm Reynolds, aka "Captain Tightpants," in Firefly?

Discuss and/or drool over all things Alex Tully-related right here.
