FanFic Discussion

Hey all you fic-ers out there (ficers sounds dirty!)

So is anyone else having a %"&*) of a time with their story because Season 4 sucks? Anyone read anything good lately?

Also- in terms of the show versus fanfic, how many people think some of the characters (Nicole, Gil) would be crucified as Mary Jane's if they showed up in fan fic?

Just trying to start some conversation so I can get back into my own tome of a story...

Gilmore Girls in the Media

The Girls gets a couple of mentions in Zap2It's "Best of TV 2003," one of them, well, indirect.

There is a selection of The O.C. as one of the best (and Adam Brody is prominently mentioned therein). In the discussion the writer notes that Kelly Rowan, who plays Mom Kirsten, is the "hottest TV mom this side of Stars Hollow." I don't mind her being second to Lauren, although I'd have Next-Door-Nina from Everwood right up there in the runnning. And, in the "Old Favorites that We Still Like" (impliedly "after all these years") Gilmore Girls is listed. Check-it-out at http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/...%7C1%7C,00.html

Lorelai and Luke

I don't want Lorelai and Luke to get together,I guess because I like the relationship that they have just fine.I know that the show has to develop, but ever since the start,he's been Luke, the guy who "feeds her" and fixes things. He's the guy with the coffee, and it would just seem weird to me if they became a couple.

Lauren Graham

This is regarding the Scott Patterson/Lauren Graham "not getting along" gossip in the Media thread. A friend of mine was in a play with Lauren in the Williamstown Theatre Festival a few summers back and she said that Lauren did not get along with her leading man, Tate Donovan, at all. They fought constantly and apparently they had some kind of history... Everyone else liked her a lot but, I think this episode might have translated to Lauren getting a bit of a rep for not getting along with her leading men.

As an aside, the girl who plays Janet was also at Williamstown that summer. Small world.

Gilmore Girls in Syndication

So, I just noticed my TiVo is picking up the ABC Family syndication episodes now, looks like there's going to be a big marathon starting 10/3. From what I've picked up so far, though, (and the ABC Family site is not much fun to navigate), it looks like they're showing the pilot and the a bunch of out-of-order eps from all seasons (up to Festival of Living Arts, for example)... But it just could be the starting marathon that's all jumbled.

Anyone know if they're going to do the whole run in order? Because I'm really looking forward to that.

ETA: Here are the episodes showing in the Sunday 10/3 marathon, according to TiVo scheduling:

Pilot
Rory's Birthday Parties
Love & War & Snow
Run Away, Little Boy
There's The Rub
Festival of Living arts

And a final TiVo note... 'Gilmore Girls Backstage Special' (as noted below) is on at 8pm/9pm EST (not sure if there are two or if it repeats) on 10/3 after the marathon. Just getting a season pass for the reruns won't pick up the special.

Nitpicking The Gilmore Girls

Day-ung, I have had a great time reading this whole thread! What a way to spend a lazy NYDay.

My nits & observations:

"Digger" probably comes from a childhood penchant for picking his nose. My folks would chide us with "Stop digging!" when they caught us at same.

Chilton students: How did Madeline & her sidekick survive an academically rigorous school? My answer: The school makes plenty of room for legacies or underachieving children whose folks contribute healthily.

The bottomless fun flask: Have y'ever filled one up? They hold a surprising amount of hooch! And the neat shot glasses? They're available on e-bay and elsewhere. Collapside cups, I believe they're called.

The size of the late, great Independence Inn: There are at least a couple dozen mailboxes in view behind the desk! All are empty, granted, which tells me the Inn probably had dozens of small rooms to begin with, but Mae combined tiny rooms into spacious rooms. Hence, 10.

Since when do ballet dancers wear bras beneath their leotards???

That's all for now. How I enjoy this stuff!
