The Old Weeds Thread

From IMDB: "After her husband's unexpected death and subsequent financial woes, suburban mom Nancy Botwin (Parker) embraces a new profession: the neighborhood pot dealer. As it seems like everyone secretly wants what she's selling -- even city councilman Doug Wilson (Nealon) -- Nancy is faced with keeping her family life in check and her enterprise a secret from her best friend/PTA president, Celia Hodes (Perkins)." For the record, the actors referred to are Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Nealon, & Elizabeth Perkins.

So, will anyone watch this show? For me, the premise makes the show sound, umm, stupid, for lack of a better word. I picture dumbed-down comedy with lots of drug jokes. However, the cast makes me think this could actually be something decent. I haven't had time to check out the buzz (ha ha) & came here looking for information, & was shocked that there was no thread for it yet. Not that TWOP is a measuring stick by any means, but I would think that would not bode well for potential viewer interest. Even Britney & Bobby Brown's shows had threads long before the shows started. I believe this one debuts Sunday, August 7th with the first run of subsequent weeks on Mondays.

I love everything about the music on "Weeds". There's so much diversity, I mean you have oldies like "Little Boxes" and "A Doodlin' Song" by Peggy Lee (from the pilot episode), Snoop Dogg's recent single "Vato", Regina Spektor, Death Cab for Cutie and The Submarines plus a lot more great artists.

Plus I enjoy all the covers for the theme song though I prefer Melvina Reynolds' as the best since it is her song. I thought the orchestra and French versions were pretty cool and different too.

The Quotes Thread: "Don't Tell Me You're Dry"

I've seen this on numerous boards around the site and Weeds surely deserves one. There are certainly a lot of great quotes from the past two seasons and hopefully more to come in future episodes.

I guess I'll start off:
from the pilot

*Nancy: People got stoned for The Passion of the Christ? That's disturbing.
Josh: It's not as disturbing as seeing it not stoned. Religion my ass, it's a straight-up snuff film

*Isabelle: Did your hair go off to a Mexican boarding school too? (re Celia shaving Dean's head in revenge for the affair in ep 102)

*Doug: (on the medicinal marijuana facility) It's a weed wonderland, Nancy. It's like Amsterdam only you don't have to visit the Anne Frank house and pretend to be all sad and shit.

3-15: "Go" 2007.11.19

Started the thread...

WOW. That was a powerful episode. That last scene when Nancy burned down her house - well MLP was just amazing. She finally GOT it. The turtles, the conversation with Guillermo, Shane talking to Judah - she finally realized what she had done to her family. When she told Judah "I tried" my eyes were tearing up. She has been avoiding her grief for so long. I am glad she finally owned up to it. If MLP doesn't win the Emmy next time or a Golden Globe again, she will have been robbed.

ANd Celia - RATTED HER OUT! A true evil bitch to the bitter end.

That scene with Conrad - was that the end of their relationship? It certainly seems that way. Hence the reiteration of their differences - Conrad doesn't know The Grateful Dead, he wants a woman who can cook a friend turkey, Nancy barely knows how to microwave, Heylia will never accept her. And Conrad told Heylia "she's nto my girlfriend" when speaking of Nancy. It makes me sad because the two actors have such good chemistry and such a good rapport.

The only funny part was Doug, who was HILARIOUS. Thank goodness for him and his banjo.

I was surprised that Tara wasn't involved in something more sinister...

This episode was intense. I felt a little uncomfortable with he scene at the end. Lets be honest, Nancy was just raped by Esteban.
