Ratings and Scheduling: It's a Jungle Out There

The show premieres tonight (Feb. 7) at 10:01 pm ET/PT. You can read press releases for the first three episodes at the Futon Critic. Also according to the Futon Critic, USA will re-air the pilot on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 11:00 am and Thursday, Feb. 14 at 12:00 pm. I am guessing that NBC.com will also offer streaming episodes after they have aired.

I'm not too optimistic about ratings. I haven't seen Cashmere Mafia but I've heard that its ratings are pretty bad and I would imagine this show is going after the same audience.

Old Lipstick Jungle Thread

NBC has Lipstick Jungle slated for midseason, which means it won't be premiering until January 2008, Sundays from 10-11 PM ET, after football season. They presented it at the upfronts this week, and it seems to have gotten a decent reception.

NBC is calling it as a drama (although they're also throwing around that horrible term "dramedy"), so I'm putting it here.

From the press release:

Based on the best-selling novel by Candace Bushnell ("Sex and the City"), this fun dramedy follows three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of lives lived at the top of their game. Nico (Kim Raver, "24"), editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine, wants to replace her boss as CEO. Movie exec Wendy (Brooke Shields, "Suddenly Susan") finds even her most earnest efforts may not be enough to balance career and family. And free-spirited designer Victory (Lindsay Price, "Beverly Hills, 90210") longs to make her dreams come true, and maybe find Mr. Right along the way. Armed with humor and strength, these three modern New York women support one another through the triumphs and tears that are all part of making it big in the Big Apple. Written by executive producers DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler (both for "How I Met Your Mother," "Three Sisters") and based on the book by Bushnell, "Lipstick Jungle" is from NBC Universal Television Studio. The pilot is directed by Gary Winick ("13 Going on 30").

The cast as currently listed on NBC.com:

Cast
Brooke Shields: Wendy Healy

Kim Raver: Nico Reilly

Lindsay Price: Victory Ford

Chris Wiehl: Shane Healy

David Alan Basche: Mike Harness

Julian Sands: Charles Lund

David Norona: Selden Rose

View preview clips at NBC.com.

*This is NOT the similarly-described show which ABC happens to be offering midseason called Cashmere Mafia and produced by Darren Star (incidentally, Page Six is circulating a rumor about a fallout between Bushnell and Star).*

To be honest I've never seen Sex and the City, and probably wouldn't have been interested in this if it weren't starring Kim Raver, whom I adore as an actress. Loved her in 24, loved her in The Nine. I know that she can play strong, ambitious, sexy, dramatic, victimized, and broken, but have yet to see her comedic timing. Brooke Shields I'm not really crazy about. I didn't recognize Lindsay Price, but looking at her TVography she's been in a few failed series lately (Pepper Dennis and Coupling, plus an appearance on The Mountain), so hmm....

Anyway, the clips make it look like it could be worth checking out. Just not crazy about NBC's midseason plan.
