Okay folks:

1. What kind of bomb could fall on Denver and be seen in a town in Kansas, apparently pretty far from the Colorado border?

2. Has there ever been a documented example of the old emergency tracheotomy using a straw or pen (actually known as cricothyrotomy or other terms) beyond the many movie scenes? I can't find one.

3. Does the size of the small town and lack of modern stores and minimal modern tech, like cell phones, seem plausible? Wouldn't satellite phones still work?

Jericho vs. Other Bombs: A Canticle For The Day After Babylon On The Beach

I wonder how this show matches up to other nuclear war stories. I read Alas, Babylon in high school but hell if I remember all the details. All I recall is that it was set in Florida and depressing.

I HAVE seen The Day After and ew, ew, ew. The Scarred for Life thread is full of the nightmares that movie produced. Why are these tales always set in small towns? So we can watch old people and children slowly die, that's why (as opposed to metropolitan areas which only consist of 30 and 40-year-old working professionals according to the movies). Sick bastards.

I really hope Jericho goes there and shows the nasty after effects of a nuclear winter. Well, maybe. We don't want any of our pretty stars to get too ugly, do we?

1-1: "Pilot" 2006.09.20

Hey y'all. The pilot episode is about to fly and I figured I'd start some jazz about it. Especially to those who already saw the pilot make sure you spoiler anything at all you think might be considered risky.

I saw the pilot. I'm not sure how I feel about it, along with Heroes, I will most definitely have to see the next few episodes to make my final decision. I thought the writing was juvenile, at best. Why would a person coming home for a few days tell three different people three different stories about where he was? Honestly the writers couldn't think of one other way to convey that Jake was doing something fishy? The acting wasn't terrible, not that I am one to judge, let's just say it was much better than say, Kristin Kreuk?

I can't really see myself really loving Jericho, but after the pilot, I might be able to learn to like it...

[Edited to add TiVo's episode description. --Barnes]

(TiVo says:) Jake's return to Jericho after a long absence coincides with a deadly explosion that catapults residents into chaos, as they wonder whether they are the only people left alive.

Cast: Skeet Ulrich, Gerald McRaney, Ashley Scott, Pamela Reed, Kenneth Mitchell, Lennie James, Sprague Grayden, Michael Gaston, Erik Knudsen, Brad Beyer, Shoshannah Stern

Guest Stars: Beth Grant, Tiffany Thornton, Darby Stanchfield, Clare Carey, Alicia Coppola, Germaine DeLeon, Marlene Forte, Alex Carter, Richard Speight Jr., Bob Stephenson, Joseph Castanon, Joey King, Leon Russom, Taylor Nichols, Vic Polizos, Al Vicente, Ariel Winter, Mackenzie Hannigan, Stevie Jr. Walsh, Princess Lucaj, Helena Barrett, Robert Koch, Bruce Bohne, Beau Dremann, Thom Williams

Executive Producers: Jon Turteltaub, Stephen Chbosky, Carol Barbee

Writer: Stephen Chbosky

Director: Jon Turteltaub
