Heroes Mafia

I guess it's OK to post this here, since, it's more a proposal for a game we could play here (because, I don't know if there would be enough interest for it or not).

I'm involved with a place (I won't name because I don't want to violate any competing forum rules) where we play Mafia games. Some of them we play with a Heroes theme, which would obviously be appropriate here since, well, it's the Heroes forum.

The basic theme of the game is the "uninformed majority" vs the "informed minority." People sign up to play and are randomly divided into two teams - Heroes or Villains - and play as characters from Heroes. Roughly 25% will be Villains (such as Linderman, Jessica, Meredith, Angela, etc), and roughly 75% will be Heroes (Peter, Nathan, Hiro, Claire, Niki, etc), although this may vary slightly. Those who are Villains have the ability to communicate with one another outside of the game thread about the game (this is usually done via PM). Those who are Heroes, however, cannot. I obviously have no way of confirming if you're following this, but, you crazy kids seem honest. The Villains want to kill all the Heroes. Likewise the Heroes with the villains.

The game is further divided into two basic areas - Day and Night - which do not correspond to real time day and night. Example: A Day in mafia could be five minutes or five hours. During the Night portion there is no activity on the game thread. This is when the Villains use their ability to PM with each other to choose a Hero to kill off. After night actions are fulfilled, the moderator of the game (that'd be me), posts a scene of original fiction involving the characters representing the players, detailing what went on in the night, who was killed or any other things that occurred of special interest within the game.

So, let's say "Joe" is playing "Bob" from Heroes, Bob is a Villain, and his team chooses to kill "Kate" who is "Sandra Bennet."

The story for Day might read something like, "Bob went up to Sandra and shot her, only to have a defiant Mr. Muggles bite him on his ankle." Then, at the bottom, it will list the actual result like this, "Kate - Sandra Bennet - Hero (insert powers here)" beneath the list of still-active players and the clue. And, I promise, the writing will be much better than this.

The Heroes then take that scene which begins Day plus a clue I drop and try to decipher which players amongst them are those dastardly Villains, which ones can be trusted, and who (if anyone) is expendable because they're an "Unspecial Ando" (meaning they have no special abilities to aid their team in the game - I'll get to those in a minute). But, the Villains are out there, with them, masquerading as Heroes, trying to steer them in the direction of killing their own and getting the Villains one step closer to victory. Once a majority is met on a candidate to kill, I'll post another scene (Dusk) which begins night and tells players the results of their actions during the Day and if they killed one of their own or not.

After that is posted, Night begins again, where the Villains again choose someone to attack and, when everyone who has a Night action has performed it (or 24 hours has come and gone), I'll post what happened in the Night and Day will start back.

So, the game sounds kind of complicated, but, it really isn't. I mentioned earlier there are special roles. A few examples of these roles include (but are not limited to):

Investigators (ie, Matt Parkman or Audrey or even Molly) who can figure out certain aspects of a player's identity.
A Doctor (ie, Mohinder) who can heal or protect a player.
A Vigilante (ie, HRG) who can perform an extra kill for his/her team.
A Recruiter (ie, Bob, Thompson) who can take a player from one team and bring them over to their side.

Both sides - Heroes and Villains - will have some mixture of people with these roles and other roles. But, there will be people who don't have major parts to play (the Andos or the Janice Parkmans of the world).

The quirk of this is, though, that - even if you can investigate or perform some helpful action - you have to be careful about your ability to do so. Because, if the Villain team thinks you can sniff one of them out, you're going to find yourself getting killed. So, it's definitely a balance of getting information where it needs to be and protecting yourself from exposure.

The last thing about the game that I wanted to bring up was the X Factor (or, the S Factor) - the Serial Killer. This is a solitary player whose objective is to get rid of ALL the Heroes and ALL the Villains. I probably don't need to tell you which character our Serial Killer would be, so, I'll just say, "BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAINSSS!"

I guess that's it. I thought it'd be something fun for us to do while we wait for this horrible strike to end. I promise I'll try to keep the stories entertaining and I'll answer any questions I can. So, if you're interested, you can start signing up in this thread, which is where the game will be hosted and played. We usually need about 20 players where I play, but, I could probably work with a few more or less.

--Butterfly Bandit

PS: If this was the wrong place to propose this, I apologize, lovely, wonderful TWOP Mods.

**************

Sign-Up:

1.
Has anyone checked out the online comic addendum at NBC.com? It's pretty cool. It fleshes out Mohinder's motives and his arrival in America, and why he's driving a damn cab. This will be fun if they keep updating and adding more online issues!
