I haven't read the books, I didn't watch the O.C., but I'm giving this show a chance. None of the characters annoyed me, and several were likable. The moments that involve minor characters - like the two extra girls that hang out with the core group - were flat and stereotypical, but scenes with the core group were well done. I like the establishment of parent-child conflicts, which makes me hope it won't be all about teens having sex with other teens, even if the book was (was it?).

In any case, anything that brings Kristen Bell to my TV in any capacity is a good thing.
